Best place for latches, hinges etc

Other than ebay are there any good suppliers of stainless latches. eBay dont have much and I wanted to find some new catches for the front bench seat on Pigs Ear. Ideally they need to be lockable.

These are top quality Chris, if you let me know what you want, I might have a couple kicking about in exchange for an RNLI donation.

+1 from me - I am a bit biased as the business is owned by a family member!

If you want lockable, Protex probably aren't the way to go unless they've upgraded to stainless locks since my Ballistic was built.

It took quite a long time to clean up the nice 316 stainless Protex catches that'd had shitty mild steel locks put in them.

Nos, many of the Protex catches have the facility to fit your own small padlock. I wouldn't regard them as high security though, more pilfer resistant.

Rather noisy unless unlocked as well at a guess.

I'd guess that 'pilfer resistant' is the best you're going to get anyway. Anyone who wants to get in that badly is going to break the catch off.

Anyone who wants in that badly is simply going to unscrew the latch!

We find the ones with a slide to release mechanism much better, the lockable ones are pretty useless because the mild inside just corrodes but the problem is in heavy seas that the catch will simply fly forwards and release the cushion unless you lock them on the move.. (which you won't be able to do after the first season anyway.. )

Hi Dave

Just realised this suggestion could be the solution to my problem too:

http://www.rib.net/forum/f8/help-ple...tch-49689.html

ie - just add an external latch instead.

Would you mind having a look at the pics on the thread above please and see if you have anything to suit - very happy to give a good donation to the RNLI. Thankfully I don't need the locking facility up here.

Many thanks

Steve

I'm sunning (in between the rain) in Normandy at the mo' Just had a couple of hours Mackie bashing, BBQd & smoked mackeral for T. I'll dig out what I have when I get home & let you know what I have. The ones I have are all 316 stainless, lockable & have a spring loaded safety catch so they don't come loose un-intended. I'll have a look on the protex site & find a piccie.

These are the ones we use in with the catch plates. They ain't that expensive to buy if you can't wait 'till I get home.

Thanks Dave

I'm in no great hurry - if you have some spare and it helps the RNLI, happy to go that way.

Enjoy the day

Dont have the problem with 'Protex 'latches opening, as used by Ribcraft. They have a patented built in safety catch..and they're made in Reddich too! They also do a key lockable version as well.
As to security unlike some, 'RC' Bolt most fittings(with nylocks)instead of screws, and you just use dome head bolts..wont stop determined thieves of course, but will stop the''Oppertunist''.
By the way I fitted a lockable glove box to the new RIB,(managed to get one in Black too!).. Now that would take some getting into!...Great add on!!
