Bent A Frame

The A frame that came on my Osprey looks like someone has fallen on it in the past and the one side is bent. (i can get a picture later)

does anyone have an ideas that would help me bend the tubing back straight to save buying a new one?

i have had a search online and can find virtually nothing that helps with tube straightening.

i currently have two ideas i may try

1 - hold the outside of the bend in the vice and slightly tighten the vice as i attempt to straighten the tube. (worried this may flatten the sides though)

2 - find a rod of some sort the same ID as the tube and try hammering this up from the bottom to see if it pulls the bar straight

if anyone has any other tips please just shout them up

Stainless or aluminum?

I would get creative with ratchet straps.

Definatly ALOT cheaper to get it Repaird....If you want it Remo...not something you want to try yourself by the sounds of things...You may Fxk it up totally and have no choice but to buy new!
Westward Fabrications in Yeovil will give you an estimate if you send few pics...and do a Good job.
Or you could pm Chris on here (Osprey Ribs) and he'd put you in touch with the Guys who make em...may be easier for them
I know Whisper bought a load of pipe bending gear recently...maybe a simple fix for him??

Muffler shop should be able to do it (for a price.)

If it's aluminum, be careful as the material may crack. As for holding it in a vise, some forming blocks to support the tube would prevent you from flattening it.

This lot used to do all the Osprey fabrication work and they're in your area. They may've built your frame originally. Home

As said, best not to have a go yourself and risk crushing the tube.

That's ace. Not far from where I work. I'll give them a bell tomorrow and see what they say.

Had a look at it earlier and has crushed the tube where it bent against the transom so not sure how well it can be repaired. May see how much one is that shapes around the tubes so gives a little more room on the transom

You could always consider getting the bent section chopped out and a new piece of straight tube put back in. You would end up with a visible joint but a good fab shop should be able to make a decent and neat job of it.

There's no way I could take it on at the moment, it's silly season and I'm maxed out...

You have already had the best advice from Mollers and that was to contact Marine Fabrications near Cannock.

You need to take the boat and the A-frame, while you're there you might as as well have it polished, it will be like new then.

Make sure you know where your nav lights and antenna are going, they are a good bunch but they are fabricators and you need to tell them what to do as they normally work to a plan
