I don't care what anyone says, I love Bear. His programmes are great; anyone who eats a live tarantula and jumps off a waterfall is ok in my book. Ray Mears is ok but he's too sincere and you have to bring your own lunch if you go on one of his courses. And as for Bear being a raging self-publicist, he's got a long way to go before he catches up with Nelson. And Madera ribs are great too.

His back injury was caused by a parchute accident where he failed to cut away a partially opened chute to deploy the reserve. He demonstrated what he should of done on an episode of his show.

That's a bit daft, support a product you don't believe in just because it is British. There is no-one more patriotic than I, but I can't see the logic in this.

Who has Madera copied, certainly none of the UK manufacturers that I have worked with and not Crompton in my view either.

It was a few years ago I read the book, and that incident was at the start of the book, but the rest was pretty good! Still a good read though.....

Will75 a few years ago madera used a copy of cromptons web site and even asked me if i could supply them with crompton moulds . the boats bear is promoting may not be copies of cromptons but as i said madera built their reputation by copying someone elses product

I don't know if they were successful, but Madera were trying to buy the Crompton moulds when Crompton were sold off by Customs and Excise.

If that's after they talked to Paul, they may be using the Crompton moulds rather than a splash.

Don't see how this is pathetic and ill thought out: up until his death it was an oft heard refrain, "say what you like about Jimmy Saville, but he's done a lot for charity". Which seems to be pretty much the default Bear defense (tho no one's suggesting that he's a paedo obvs).

My wife and I had dinner years ago with Bear and his wife Shara (she is great mates with one of our best mates). Bear was charming, had a few interesting points, like the jeans he was wearing that he had embroidered himself ! He was more interested in other people rather than in himself - which is a good quality I think.

Very likeable chap, but I agree would have been better if somehow he could have hooked up with a British manufacturer

Have you or anyone else seen this on a triple engined boat? All I can think is it would put a strain on the centre engine? It is common for the outer engines to have shorter legs but that's for good reason!
