[QUOTE=tonto;517066].

However having recently read Bear's book about how he came back from being potentially paralysed at 19 after a helicopter crash whilst in the SAS, to become (at that time) the youngest person to climb Everest at 22, and the journey, fundraising, and expedition to do that, it really changed my opinion of him, it shows a person with real drive and determination to beat the odds, and for me was quite enlightening.

I'm with ya mate.

Cheers, Squid

would have been better if he had supported a UK manufacturer , rather than a foreign one who built their reputation by copying a uk manufacturer

I don't care what anyone says, I love Bear. His programmes are great; anyone who eats a live tarantula and jumps off a waterfall is ok in my book. Ray Mears is ok but he's too sincere and you have to bring your own lunch if you go on one of his courses. And as for Bear being a raging self-publicist, he's got a long way to go before he catches up with Nelson. And Madera ribs are great too.

His back injury was caused by a parchute accident where he failed to cut away a partially opened chute to deploy the reserve. He demonstrated what he should of done on an episode of his show.

I know one thing for certain, Bear Grylls is sufficiently intelligent not to make a pathetic and ill thought out comparison such as this one.

That's a bit daft, support a product you don't believe in just because it is British. There is no-one more patriotic than I, but I can't see the logic in this.

Who has Madera copied, certainly none of the UK manufacturers that I have worked with and not Crompton in my view either.

You are quite right!

It was a few years ago I read the book, and that incident was at the start of the book, but the rest was pretty good! Still a good read though.....

I must remember to remember things before I write
