Beaches In The Solent.....

Hi all

Need some advice please. Our 15 year old daughter has announced that she would like to have a beach bbq for her birthday bash this year in August (weather permitting). For those of you local to the area, we are out of SDS and we would like to get the kids dropped off at a local beach and then for us to drive the boat round for a bit of fun - waterskiing, ringoing etc etc.

West Wittering is an obvious choice as far as the beach goes, but we've never taken the boat over there so not sure how close in you can get?

Would love to get them all to Priory Bay but don't think their parents would be too chuffed at taking them all over to the Island and there will be a few too many to take all of them in the boat.

Don't panic guys - we will be sure to let you know where and when so that you can all avoid the area like mad

Witterings might be a little hard to get close in as it's a shallow shelving beach, however Hayling or Southsea would be fine as would points along Lee on Solent. But what about the hamble shorline, it's sheltered both for the party and anchoring and easy to get to. Just some thoughts.

East Head must be the bast place for your plans, nice sandy beach, sheltered etc.

It's the headland to the west of W. Wittering beach.

If it's where I am thinking of (inside the entrance to Chi harbour?), the only problems I can see are that it can get really busy (think Ikea car park busy) both on the water and by road (the road from Chi down to the Witterings is an absolute nightmare), and the land based group won't be able to see the boat based group except when coming in to swap over.

Apart from the suggestions so far, would somewhere to the west of Southampton not be an option, maybe in Poole bay or Christchurch bay?

Thanks Chris. Yep, beginning to think that W of Soton is likely to be the best bet. Studland's a great beach and so is Bournemouth. Only problem is getting them all down there. More food for thought! Cheers.

If your launching from Southampton then I still think that Hamble is a great place to go. The area of beach I had in mind is a shingle beach, but very quiet and a BBQ or small fire on the beach front wouldn't upset anyone. The water is deep enough for a close in anchor, there's plenty going on in the water to keep you occupied and again it's sheltered for most wind directions.

well access for cars is really good with elevated parking and fairly scenic views towards Fawly refinery
