JSP (the OP) got a reasonable looking searider for less than 1/2 what you paid. He will probably be able to pick up a genuine 13 year old engine for the difference. But hey - you just bought a boat you might want to resell one day and with google power its only natural you would want to talk it up!

I'm sorry but you are wrong. That outboard is alot older than 13years. It has been resprayed, with new stickers. The original colours are still visible on the front part of the engine (the oranger/yellow stickers). Which puts it mid 80's at best.

The mariner 60 produced in the late 80's and early 90's was totally different, it was 3 cylinders and mercury based. Then they changed again around '95. Yours is yamaha based 2 cylinder.

Theres no reason why it shouldn't be as good as a newer engine, all depends on how well its been looked after. Mine was 12years old, but ran like new. But theres no point making it out to be something that its not, what happens when you need to find parts for it?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/13FT-RIB-20HP-...d=p3286.c0.m14

Is that one aswell? Still don't recognise it as an avon hull. Definatly not a searider.

thanks guys i will like to hear some feedback if you know anymore about the subject.

I assume the seller told you all that?

There was in fact a 55hp Yamaha that looked like that around that age-'95, but no 60hp. All the 60hp Mariners from '95 were 3 cylinder as SamT says-and the colours (and doggy rebadge) point to it being around 1985. Latest possible in those colours is 1992.

If you think it handles like an Avon, someone lend me an SR4 and next time we get a f8 I'll race you from Lymington to Yarmouth and back.

RectumRib...all joking apart, I hope you have some great experiences in your new purchase. Ribs of all sizes are to my mind great fun, I have a 3 meter sib with a 2hp on the back that I love to potter around in.

You have a Flatacraft Force 4 as correctly identified by Nasher. If you would like to read about the early history of Flatacraft then try this. The picture of the guy on the left of the page is Tony Lee-Elliott, who with one or two others developed ribs from inflatables to the boats we have today, without him, no ribs.

Yep, Flatacraft Force 4 GT Hull.

The GT doesn't have the distinctive Force 4 Flat front as it was extended to be able to take a slightly larger engine.

The tubes could be by anybody, but did look original to me.

And yes, as much as I love Flatacraft Force 4's, a SR4 will out-handle it in the rough stuff.

Nasher.

bumstormer ?

i think to be honest a rib is a rib there must be over a thousand or so different variations out there. all that matters is they go fast and are very stable. i have looked around for other ribs if anyone comes across a nicer one for the money let me know? and i wasnt dissing the advice so much as the lack of knowledge by a certain post that said the engine was 30 years old. if this was the case the engines today would be far more advanced. anyhow took it out yesterday top speed 37 knots not bad for a piece of crap i suppose but if you want to throw thousands at it then thats ok but you can have as much fun with this.
anyhow i am after a a frame anyone got one? thanks guys for being brutal about my rib im sure more comments will follow. oh if its makes any difference i did upset some snobby idiot in his brandnew seadoo who thought he was faster as he struggled to reach 32 knots i loved it thats my point £1500 rib against £10,000 seadoo and guess what i had more fun.

i love my barnstormer lol

ok just read a few of the other posts i am impressed that its a such a large topic. ok here we go the engine is a mariner/yamaha 55 hp i found this out after further investigation so top points to the man who spotted that. it has been resprayed but has been very well looked after so not bitter and i would have been more upset if it said mercury anywhere on it. now the hull is based on a avon i used to have a gt4 and the hull is the same upto the snub . i must admit this boat is very dart like this and long . oh the plate on the engine dates it at 1992 so must have been last of a batch maybe. so its 16 years old so what its a good solid engine. why do i feel like im being picked on by you rib bullys lol.
honestly i am happy with it you should have seen my last one.lol

any of you guys in the littlehampton area?

i must admit to you it does slap down alot harder than my flatforce 4 used to prob because of the nose extension?

yes it was a flatcraft . the hull is the same apart from the flat nose. the v & chines are all the same.it does have a steel keel band . i think this maybe a protertype of a sort ?. it does however handle well. it seems to be more stable than my flatcraft. but i only had a 30 hp on that and unlike the usual flatcrafts i fitted mine with a quick silver centre console and it was great but pig bloody ugly so i just wanted something that looked a little nicer. well not all of us have thousands to spend on a boat so it does me and my son loves it.

You'll probably find the extra stability is helped by the heavier engine.

Fair play, that should fairly motor along in calm conditions. Should actually be faster than 38 knots if it's propped correctly. My sr4 with a 50 was quicker than that and I'm a fat git and the sr4 has a lot deeper V hull.

We''re doing the End of Summer blast next weekend-feel free to come along but won't be racing as I'll be in my 5.4

That might well be a replacement cowl if it says '92 on the powerhead-or a replacement powerhead.

Yes - there are some decent small ribs around for less than £2k. If you can handle a bit of home maintenance, then that will keep the costs down too.

The Yamahariner 55 is a tidy motor - reliable and loads of spares around, should you need them.

Your hull is not 'based on' an Avon though - it's a very different design to a 4m Searider.
