Obviously it's a bit more complicated than that. Leeway to my knowledge copied a Phantom (allegedly) and stretched and altered that to suit and may have copied other boats - look on Boatmad for more on that story!

As it's a stepped hull the "attitude" of the boat is pretty much fixed and as such will suit both inboard and outboard - you can fit an outboard at any height you like. Designers would be amazing if they could design a hull for a specific prop for every occasion - I really don't understand what you're getting at or am I not making myself clear?

Why don't you have a look at some other designs and see how many different engines and drives they have been powered by - successfully - and that will give you your answer!

The Phantoms are for racing use although once you've bought one you can do what you want with it - the only problem is they have no CE mark.

The design is an original Phantom / Baker design developed with multi National Champion Nick Barsch from the very successful 18 who owns the moulds now - we make them for him.

Yep, that's fine, race, homebuild and prototype craft are exempt!

Thanks. What is the LOA of the 19? In Scandinavia there is a popular offshore class, V-150 (Z) mono-hull, LOA min 570 cm, standard engines up to max 150 hp(no blueprinting or tuning but nose-cone and prop is free).

Noted that a few Pahantom's also in the series but they have been 20 and 21. Reckon a 19 would be faster whit that HP?

The boats do insane speeds for the HP, fastest about 67 knots at race weight 840 kg. Originally was intended as a entry level class but look pretty pro now.

As Dirk said so long as it's for racing only then it's fine.

570cm is fine, if anything it's well over 19' from memory - I think the OCR boats are running about 64mph with Yamaha 130hp V4 motors but that is without nose cones etc. I would imagine with that sort of motor they would be a lot faster than the 20 or 21, they are certainly faster in a straight line than the 18 and probably the newest of the Baker designs.

OK, thanks for info, maybe one day......A pre 1998 would be OK for leisure also, as no CE needed for those. In the V-150 old Merc 2 strokes, carbed or EFi seams to do well, maybe more than 150hp in reality.

Been a bit busy recently - a second Phantom is in the mould and we have the floors in - the fuel tanks complete, one of the motors has been in and out (tight squeeze!) and the foams for the bulkheads are all in:

End grain Balsa has impact resistance second to none whereas any foam will crush and cause a failure. Balsa is used for the area under the fuel tank and planing pad as well as in spray rails - the big boat has it everywhere!

OK, thanks, always learning new things on this forum! The other day checked on YouTube the sea trials on the scale boat of BananaShark 34.
One question come to my mind, what is the proper scale speed? Guess the size, weight and even engine power(?) is logically derived from the real thing as per scale ratio,
but how about speed? If you model would be 1:10 and target speed for the real thing 70 mph, for sure testing speed is higher than 7 mph.....is there a rough formula for that?

Testing a model in the sea like that will never be as scientific as that - it's more of a "If it looks right it probably is" sort of thing. To get the speed just right for everything else would be a lot of effort for a very similar result.

We'll know if we got it right or not in the not too distant future I hope - we'll let you all know when it's on the water!

The dyvinicell also will not absorb water , this can be a problem with balsa around hull penetrations.

Not a problem as it's a race boat and only in the water for races - if there is any damage it will be repaired immediately.

Replacement engine mounts for the cast aluminium items - they will be joined together in pairs to stabilise the engine in the boat.



Our new gantry crane - it will lift both engines in at once (engines are under the covers). Two Yanmar BY 260's



The plug for the rear end is almost finished, this will be removed from the boat and turned in to a mould and then the actual part. The seam where you can see the join will disappear when finished. Phantom 19 deck now has its first matt and the seat bases are started.
