Balistic 7.8

Does any one know what the max hp you can put on the back of one of these 7.8s i will put twin rig 4/s Suzuki but dont no what hp? Does any one have one set up with twins, if so what engines, hp and what does it go like??

According to the Ballistic web site it will take a single 300hp or twin 250s. I've tried one with twin 225s and it was pretty quick!

I'm fairly certain that RIB International did a test on them some time ago...

IIRC it was a very positive review.

Anyway Nick, never mind about these credibility points that people keep asking for... can I just come for a test ride once you've got the beast rigged and set up?

According to the new CE Marking of the Balistic 7,8 it will take a single 225 HP

CE marking rules for boats under 8 meters

(Length * Width * 10 - 33) * 1,36 = HP

(7,8 * 2,54 * 10 - 33) * 1,36 = 224,56

Taking a twin outboard installation the CE marking is very strict, 225 / 2 = 112,5 HP pr. engine

I do belive you could put a 300 HP on the back of a balistic 7,8, but you would be breaking to ce marking, and there by you insurance might not cover the boat.

Ya That CE marking is a pain, but only if you live in England, if like me you live in the Channel Islands you do not have to have items CE marked or approved , this limits me when i want to sell but oh well dont want to do that for a bit.

All of the above is from an ISO standard for RIBs and is correct. However, not quoted above is the bit that refers to another ISO standard for determining maximum power based upon how the boat handles. If it can be shown that the boat can perform a 90 degree turn, at full speed, within a specified distance (based upon boat length and speed) then that power used in the handling test can be used irrespective of the formula quoted above.

In addition, if the boat cannot pass the handling test at full speed, but can do so at a reduced speed then it is acceptable for the manufacturer to affix a notice at the helm warning the operator that handling may be less than perfect at speeds above xx knots. Can still specify the larger maximum horsepower.

I hope this may be of use to those of you building "quick" RIBs !

I think that in SA in the Transagulhas race the F1 Ballistic (yellow boat in photo above) raced with twin 200 VMaxes 2-strokes not the HPDIs - I think.
