Avon vs Avon

Interesting article in May's issue of Sportsboat and Rib magazine. Jon Mendez puts a 40-year-old Avon SR with a blueband Mercury 50 against a new Avon 410 Adventure Rib and Yamaha 40hp 4-stroke.

The Osprey seems to have a good write up too and lots of tips from the experts on ribs, wonder if they have been reading Ribnet then

Had in interest in this ( seeing as I own a 4m Adventure ) and will see if I can scan this eveing & stick on here ( though I feel I may be breaking all sorts of rules) - so may have to mail PDFs to you if you let me have your mail address.

I felt it was a indecisive view of what was the 'better' boat. I think just suited to differant things & personal preferance.

Agreed - an SR will trounce the adventure in any decent size sea , but I think the article showed both boats have their merits & very differant uses/ intentions/ markets.

Generally though I think it highlighted that there hasn't been a particularly noticable or ground breaking development in RIBS in a very very long time. ( apart from maybe engine technology which isn't really RIB specific)

An SR4 was the first ever RIB I drove ( takeing it form Gunwharf to Newtown IOW & back in generally bad weather ! ) with a very unreliable 40 hp Johnson on it !, But now I am getting on seemed rather commercial for the wife & 2 kids to do some skiing and general 'fun' off the beach - hence why I got the Adventure.
