Avon SR4 with 89' Yam 40HP?

Hey all,

I'm looking to purchase a SR4 (Boat is quite young, around 10 years old I believe and owned by a yacht club), with a 89' Yamaha 40HP 2 Stroke.

I'll be viewing her tonight, and I'm quite well prepared to re-arrange the console/jockey seat situation as it doesn't feel particularly well set up for my use.

She has a pretty much new Indespension Trailer, and the tubes look to be in very good condition.

Have you knowledgeable folk got any tips for me before I venture 100 miles to view? What sort of figure should I be looking to pay?

Many thanks!
Andy

Sr 4

Hi Andy

I assume the SR4 you are looking at is the cream hulled Axe Yacht Club one. Looks in good shape. It is a deluxe version converted to rescue version with central jockey seat. Our one with a 40HP Yamaha 2 stroke can hit 33 knots lightly loaded so lots of fun. Price looks about right but you can only buy on condition which is hard to establish from photos. Trailer looks very good so worth a chunk of money on its own. There is another SR4 for sale in your neck of the woods for a bit more money. I would take a close look at both and buy the best one. Enjoy they are fantastic fun for little money.

Hi mike,

Thanks for the reply. You're right, it was that boat. Attached is a photo of the hull, if only the owner had told me before I trekked 140 miles there ..!

Still on the lookout for a SR4, they sound like great boats.

Sr4

Hmm yes not so good. Worth holding out to find a good one. Two others on Gumtree down your way. Good luck.

Interesting. It wasn't like that when I used it last. Different engine too. If I remember correctly, it's actually a 1989 boat — I'm fairly sure it was within a year of ours.

I've just bought the Gumtree one near Rochester.
My first rubber boat apart from a Bombard Ax-3.
