I'm certain that what I can see there is seam tape.

looks like a thin tape to me too could the brushmarks be showing through from where the glue was brushed on .

I did also think about that latex / rubber coating that is used on wetsuit knees and edges of kayak spraydecks etc . I had a hypalon spraydeck with it on the edges and it was realy tough

Ian;

If it's tough, and wears well, it won't be latex. Latex is very sensitive to oils, UV, and ozone, and readily falls apart under any or all of those conditions.

My experience with liquid EPDM is that it is not good against abrasion. It will wear and peal readily. The sell the stuff for roofs and UV protective applications but it will not be strong enough or elastic enough against a light abrasion. Do a search on Google for "liquid epdm". Its the same stuff.

From what I've seen with my Avon ribs. That is a hypalon seam tape.

The liquid epdm is NOT what you are looking for.

I say latex / rubber because thats what it feels like soft rubber , but its not I guess ,
whatever the stuff is that found on wetsuit knees etc these days .

Agreed. Here's a pic of the same stuff, falling off even more.(link) It's clearly hypalon tape. It's also what it looks like on my Avon,and my last Avon (except it's not falling off those!)
