Avon Or Ribeye

Hi guys looking for a new rib my last rib was a zodiac yachtline 600 with a 150hp that i had in malta. Nice loking boat but very poor in the rough stuff so looking for a change set my heart on i think because i change my mind every day a avon 560 or a ribeye 500 but which one ????????????? this boat is for the uk so guys which one is the best

Is there a reason why you've narrowed it down to these two RIBs? Plenty more choice out there in that size/price range.

Had a good look around like the layout of both boats as it for a family seating suits and gone for ribeye for the deap hull but open to sugestions

i've heard the the ribeye is pretty bad in the rough stuff, plus they don't use hypalon tubes

Sadly I've not got the time to dedicate to a good old bitch fight today I'm afraid chaps but if GSW has any questions about the Ribeye 500 I'd be pleased to answer them (and qualified to answer them too, given that I own one! ).

i did my PB2 in a Ribeye about 5 or 5.5m. On the 2nd day we went out in a force 6 and it was great fun - waves were about 8' or so and I was very impressed with the way it handled. We got VERY wet but it was great fun. Boat had an 80hp yam 4 stroke on it. the instructor has had the boat for about 4 or 5 years and no problems. Landings off the waves were quite hard though.

as i said that's what i "heard" actually "read" on this forum. The ribeye salesman TOLD me that the tubes were not hypalon. I guess he was wrong or they have recently changed the material that they make the tubes from.

Really? Maybe you should go out in one and then give us an opinion from first hand experience. Or perhaps let an owner of a Ribeye 500 such as AlexM give a qualified view

Depends what you want to use the boat for to be honest, I would choose neither as I assume the Avon you are referring to is from the Adventure range and therefore not a proper one! If im incorrect and the Avon in question has grey tubes and an orange hull then go for it
I would choose something less 'picnic' and more commercial, Ribcraft, Parker, Osprey etc but thats just my taste in ribs.

Can't say much about the Ribeye or Avon but we took a Ribcraft 5.3 out on their open day and it was amazing how well it handled the waves, which apparently where 8-10 feet and we had a force 7 blowing

hi all, I bought a 2006 Ribeye 500, Yamaha 80hp & Bramber RG2 trailor & am very happy with it. It is all down to personal choice & what suits one person others no doubt cringe at, just look at the car market, I know someone who owns 3 Austin Maestros & raves about them.

After reading this forum I went to the 07 Boat Show this Jan almost ready to part with 20k for a Ribcraft 5.3, all specced up beforehand. Then I saw it & sorry guys, unpopular opinion but I just didn´t like it. It was so boxy & landroverish - funny cos Í love the Defender but in boating terms just didn´t like it.

Anyway, at the Boat Show I saw the others I had considered, Avon, Ribcraft, Zodiac Open Pro - all c 5-5.5m & c 20k GBP.

Cut a long story short I didnt actually buy one there & then, Boat Show offers are a bit of a con. As luck would have it I had already asked around & got a demo package (boat, outboard plus trailor) at a good winter price.

Since delivery in March 07 I have put c 15 hours on her & am v happy. I may have changed the helm seating from pod to bench but given the package price I can live without it, & can swap it out at my cost & still have a good deal.

My advice is look at all the forums, scan the ads, talk to the owners & spend your money as you please. Ribs are fun but they come at a price, I just couldn´t see 20 k G BP in a 5m boat & trailor & I expect it to depreciate like a car. I just sold my old boat with a sail & got more than I paid for it after 5 years use.

I don´t work for Ribeye or have any connection with them but I would buy another.

I would agree. Try a lot of boats and see what suits you best. I have a Dartmouth built Ribeye and have nothing but praise for its build quality and sea-handling. Even better, the after sales service is brilliant....they're a really helpful bunch. Re-sale value is great.

Everyone has their own views/prejudices and agendas. If we all liked the same boats what a boring forum this would be. For whats its worth, I think Ribcrafts are wonedrful machines but they do look a little "workhorse"...not everyones taste. And when I was buying a boat a year ago they were unhelpful and pretty uninterested to be honest.
