Hmmm...that's a terrible comparrison of car to boat if you're trying to imply ribeye are crap... unless you're still living in 1990?

There is no doubts at all that Avon make an absolutly 'superb' rib (not in the skoda model comparson...) You will not go wrong putting your money in an Avon, especially a 560 - i think thats a great looking rib, put the slick laid-back double A-frame on the back and they look fantastic

As for Ribeye - I don't have a 500, but it will be my next rib - that or a 550 which is basically the same hull but longer. I have no complaints about mine (a late 03 wavecross) at all apart from the price of the accessories. Mine handels great, is built and finished to a very high standard and in my opinion, looks damn smart.

With a ribeye you also get a great dealership network and service centre's (and from my experience at Lansdale marine, very friendly and helpful staff) there is also the ribeye club which has just launched this year, where you can get branded clothing and join in on organised ribeye cruises. All adds to a more involved ownership of quite an expensive item.

You won't go wrong buying either - for me, between an Avon 560 and a Ribeye 500 (if I had not owned either before) it would probably come down to boat layout (your main use; family trips with kids? diving?) - and if you can configure them both the same, it would be down to asthetics and then my decision would be obvious.

BTW - if you're looking at a new one, i'd wait a bit if you can - I read recently Ribeye are going to have a big re-shuffle with their range, so there might be some new models coming out shortly.

nothings so so bad about them.

But there are a lot of people about on this forum that like Ribs to look 'business like'...

Ribeye generally look more of a posy sports rib, so they get knocked a bit.

They are also a relatively new company in a well established market. I'd say it took them a year or two to get things right, as with any new company that's making a hand crafted object, quality control takes a while to get right. But that certainly doesn't appply to any Ribeye built in recent years. They have got it right IMO.

having bought a avon adventura 6.2 last year i can say its the best rib i have had
wide beam deep v hull and most important a bow going up and not flat like most ribs, i go diving a lot and am in rough sea,s and a high bow is best, , delta were good at this but may be too high,
i have owned over the years
zodiac, ospray, northcraft, tornado ,ribeye,trimlet, humber,rib by almec tubing,temtress,
and the ribs with a high nose do better in rough seas
also a 6mt+ is better in rough sea than a 5mts rib 3/4 ft makes a big difference.
just my opinion
also concider a fuel tank on the deck in the console , its a lot easer to maintail than in the hull make sure the console is bolted down and not fiberglassed in.(learnt the hard way when a tank leaked in the hull cost of new tank £30.00 but new console £400+)

We had a Avon 560 with a 100 Yamaha F/stroke.
Went to Cherbourg a couple of time and had hours of fun.
When i sold it we had people climbing over them selfs for it so for me it was a great rib.
