AVON - Adventure 580

Hi.. I'm upgrading my lovely Avon 490 to a 6
Mtr Rib which can handle the solent better..
As I love Avons I've seen a AVON - Adventure 580 advertised within my budget of £20k

Anybody has experience with this Avon and how it handles in rougher water's?

Is the deep V really a deep V?

Would appreciate if you can give your views.

Have you done a search on here for this model?
I’ve owned several ribs and the adventure was the worse of them all.
It certainly does not have a deep V and it is definitely not suited to rougher waters.
It’s design is more suited to inland lakes or the med.
Your budget will get you a lot of boat so I’d do some research before buying.
What is it you particularly like about Avon’s?
What seat configuration would suit you?
What kind of boating do you do or would like to do - cruising with young family/fishing/long distance offshore jaunts/wave jumping in heavy weather?
If you post this you’ll get lots of alternative suggestions.
You’ll then have the high quality problem of making a decision on how best to spend your 20k.

The Avon Adventurer is indeed a medium V hull. Like all Avon's, incredibly well built especially the tubes - so you can expect it to last a while even with quite a few years under its belt.

In terms of ride etc - really depends what you want to use it for. The chap above says lakes and the Med, not totally sure I'd agree with that. It's perfectly suited to UK coastal boating unless you are looking to go out in all weathers togged up in drysuits and Gecko helmets. A friend used to have one and I spend a fair while onboard in the Solent. Never had any dramas to speak of, but he was in his late 60s and only went out in shorts weather.

If that's the kind of family boating you plan to do (like the majority of families) and it's a good price and you like the look of it then go for it!

Hi. Many thanks..We have been on the solent with the small 49Avon for more then 4 years but it's restricting us when we can go out because of size but also the flat hull slams even with smallish waves.. The layout needs to have at least be suitable for a family picnic but combined with a deep V which allows us to get out safely even on a windy..

I did a lot of research and yes 6 metre Ribcraft, Ribtec etc would be
perfect but not always available.. Recently I also had a look at Ballistic and impressed as ut gives me all I want... Finding a decent one is again not easy....

I used to have a 560. Not bad, but will take your fillings out on a sea. Not a deep V and quite lightly built. Have a Ribcraft 585 now, which is a much softer ride. Much heavier though.

I had the Avon 560 & the 580 which I thought was ok but didn’t really know any better until I was taken for a sea trial in a Cobra. I instantly sold the Avon that I had at the time and purchased the first of four Cobras. You need to get a sea trial in other makes to see the benefits/difference.

Does anyone know the dead Rise on the Avon..
Can’t find a number online.
