Avon 4m Adventurer

Hi there,

Does anyone own / has owned or can provide info on the Avon Adventurer. I see that most are fitted with a 40hp would this be powerful enough to tow wakeboarder / skier or would a 50 be a better option?

Possibly looking to buy a smallish rib.

Your advice appreciated.

Gibbo

Why particularly the Adventurer? Is it down to seating capacity?

Hi,

I would like a smallish rib as access to my house and storage is restricted. I have noticed a few on B&O / Fleabay. They look quite nice.

Thanks

I'm going to sound like a parrot here but if you only need seating for 2, get yourself a well set up Avon Sr4 with a jockey console and 40-50hp on it. Quite simply the best 4m rib ever made.

Maybe not as 'pretty' as a 4m Adventure, but far more effective in rougher seas.

If you're only looking for something to tow a skier/wakeboarder on calm water, then the Adventure should be ok. It wouldn't be my choice though.

No reason an Sr4 can't be 'pretty' (note that I don't know the company selling it)

Wouldn't fancy my chances of staying in it though without a jockey seat.

Is that blue toobed 4.7 still for sale?If it is,it's been for sale a while-might be a bargain for someone.

I've got one as a play boat for off the beach . skiing , toys etc . We were advised go for the 50 so we did . However a few people have found the 4 stroke 50's to make the boat pretty stern heavy ( we did) , and our set up is a bit differant to most to give more room in the bow - BUT doelfins fixed the bow up tendancy no problem.

Not a bad boat at all - we use ours for pretty much everything ( have had 8 in it up & down the river including an 83 yr old in the bow !) , but as said not as good in the rough stuff - it;ll do it , but not as nicely as an SR- having said that I managed t keep up at around 30knts with the bigger boys going to Yarmouth a few weeks back ! ( Pics in Nacho raid thread in cruises).

THey do look nice & well put together & most are rigged decently . Mine tucks into the garage with space to spare for bikes etc etc. Depeding on what you want to use it for I'd say you cant go far wrong. Iam supposed to be selling mine but I cant bring myself to do it - its just a good fun boat !

Thanks for replying.

The Searider is a great boat, i actually had the use of a 5.4 with 70 Suzuki and it always put a smile on my face.
I didn't realise a 4m version was available, whatever i eventually buy, i would like to put an Etec 40/50 on it, should be a good little combo?

Just had a look at the Ribcraft website there is a little beauty for sale:

You could buy 2 or 3 decent SR4s for £6k.

2-stroke, 3 cyl, Yam 50 on carbs:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAH...ssoriesQ5fGear

At 86kg, it's 80% of the weight of an e-tec 50/Yam F50/Soozook DF50

Here's the LINK to that 4m searider. It would need a jockey seat or whole new console though.

That's what I'd go for too-or the equivalent merc/mariner. You'll still only need 2 25l tanks in it for a really long day+emergency fuel.

Just been looking through fleabay, and there are a couple of belters on their. That Chinook says made in USA, personally I thought they were made in Cheshire by Kevin. There is also a Raider made by Ribtec in 2000. Tricky but probably an early BWM with a Chinook console in.

Do people not know what they own

Oh and how hard the the humber strike the concrete to need a repair like that.

Is it possible to import a 2 stroke from USA? Why do you so rate the Yamaha and is it much better than the Tohatsu 2 stroke?

What is the fuel economy like with 50 2 strokes? I appreciate it would cost less initially so would balance out.

So many questions but what is the maximum hp i could put on the Searider?

Advice really appreciated.

Others know allot more than me as I'm still new to all this so you will get a better answer soon. I had a 4m Searider with a merc 50hp 2 stroke. Went very well and I loved it. If I blasted around at full whack all day it would cost me about £50 (petrol was well over a quid then though) but cruising around it would cost me about £20-30 tops.
Only reason I got rid of it was it was a bit to small for what I wanted. But they are great for launching and recovering on your own and being so damn easy to work on.

Yes, anything's possible. A 'used' outboard shouldn't present any problems.

The 50hp 3 cyl Yam has been around for years and has stood the test of time. They are very reliable and pack a lot of power and torque for their weight. Yamaha motors are well built and have excellent residual values.
The Tohatsu is generally held in a lower regard, but they perform very well and would be a reasonable (& cheaper) alternative to the Yam. All the Zapcat & Thundercat racers have proven the Tohatsu 50 to be a sound motor. Ian Parkes on here has one and can probably offer more in-depth knoweldge.

Again, Ian Parkes is your man. He has an unhealthy fascination with outboard running costs.

SR4 has a max power rating of 50hp
