Around Ireland Powerboat Race

Well.... you might not know but there is a round ireland powerboat race going on...

anyone got any more information on it other than the "limited" information on the website ( www.aroundireland.org )

There seems to be 5 boats running. 4 or which are ribs and all of them seem to be getting a lesson from the CUV boat Cinzano (ok, they have a few more horses but still!!)

see the Buzzi rib stopped in dublin according to the tracking and hasnt restarted yet??

I appreciate its not an easy task to organise something like this but sure it must be in everyones (racers, sponsors, organisers and fans) interests to keep the information flowing??

I know a bit. No surprise that the website is QT. I can't say much on here without revealing my sources, but the CG has been kept busy

More info and pics here.

Lay day today in Waterford and onto Fenit on Friday.

Ribnet Forum Member mobeydick joined the race yesterday in his new Excalibur 10m (Dreamer) in Bangor but had to pull in at Rosslare because of engine trouble.

He will rejoin the race on Friday in Waterford

hummm

well i dont know anyone involved with the race or its organization but as a fan, no information makes it boring, 5 boats makes it not much of a race and overall, a bit of a farce considering it was supposed to be such a big thing with 40 boats coming from all over the world.

lets compare it to RB08 (i am sure there are some similarities with regard to the task of organization). website was updated daily, forums were updated by persons involved and as a result, there was far more interest from persons within the sport as well as outside.

just seems like a missed opportunity....

as for the CG being kept busy, i hope this is for reasons not related to the poor prep of boats or organizations and simply a reflection on the fact the seas are a difficult and dangerous place some times, especially when pushing boats hard!

The tracking system seems to be more reliable than the RB08 system which is good to see!

i see on Boatmad that Tom MS has posted about the problems they have had and what looks to be a "large wall of green water"!!

im sure racing west of ireland could be a pretty lively place!

i cant wait for cowes now. going to try and clear the diary, get the dog sitter booked and be on the water all weekend to see these fantastic boats. only wish we could keep up with them!!
