Apres' Spitit Send Off !

Morning,

Thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread for this as I guess it’s going to be another long one.

Thanks jools for the pics you posted on the site, excellent.

I ran with Russell (Grey C) with SofC as far as Ilfracombe (40 miles) when we said our final good buys and spent the afternoon trying to get the boat out the water on the lowest tide of the year. The wind had got up quite a bit by the eime we left them, F4-5 and is still strong in Cornwall this morning F6.

Thank You Nadia! For organising every thing and making sure it all went off with a bang. I had a great time, even if I am starting to suffer a little now.

It was good to see you all and your boats, I already look forward to the beginning off June even if by liver doesn’t.

Speak soon,

Toby

Good idea to start a news thread - will it be competing with Keith's for the longest?

I am hoping everyone made it back okay.
I know Andy and Cherie are still in Cardiff and B4 is still somewhere along the coast making it's way back home.

It's been 24 hrs and 34 mins since SOC left Cardiff

The official start time out of Cardiff was 12:33.
It seems like they have been gone ages and I do miss them , what can I say?

It's nice to know that I will be seeing them again in Gib on Thursday and hopefully can say a non-tearfull good-bye then.

Does anyone have anything I need to take with me?
Or bring back?

Thanks again for showing your great support and coming up to Cardiff - I know it took some organising and many miles to get there, but I was happy to see so many of you and put some faces to names.
Apologies I've i seemed to be running around a bit too much at stages, and for being so late on Sunday !!! I hope all those with damaged boats and bits of boats will have a speedy recovery. As for the damaged livers, I take no responsibility.

Please, please keep in touch over the next few months (and longer hopefully) and I will post regular updates on here as well.

Take care and see you in June.

Er, not quite sure how to shout if you are not back??
Anyway, we ran into a Force 5 as we neared Lands End on the Sunday. Decided to return to Padstow as we didn't fancy going round the corner in that weather at night.
Next day was no better so having gone 15/20 miles down the coast a taken a bit of a pounding we returned fo a leisurely day back in Padstow. By the next morning, the wind had dropped and we left at 08.00 and reached Torquay at 16.30.
All fine, nothing broken about 700 miles in total during the weekend.

Glad to hear you made it in the end. How did you manage 700 miles, i thought it was only about 250 from torquay?

My calculation is as follows:
259 Torquay to Cardiff-if you drive in a dead straight line between each way point-which obviously you don't !!
Thats 520 return. Additionally we:
diverted into Ilfracombe (following you to make sure you were OK)
Went out to Flat Holm on Saturday.
Did the two rivers jaunt.
Mucked around a lot in Cardiff.
On the Sunday return we went well inshore to places like Bude to try to get out of the south-westerley. Diverting eventually into Padstow.
Retried on Monday, got well down the coast (past Trevose Head) before giving up and returning to Padstow.
Gave local family a joy-ride out from Padstow.
Those diversions, together with going well off-route on the return (including a lunch stop inside Plymouth Breakwater-when our course should have been well south of the Eddystone), I estimate to total another 150 or so miles.
