Anyone recoated a console in different colour?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone had changed the colour of their console or seating, by spray painting, new gel coat etc? Considering changing mine from blue to white ... thanks!

Single man dive console on my Osprey Viper was resprayed, went from original blue to white. Not by me, but easily done by a pro.
Nugent on here would be the goto man.

Thanks that’s great to hear! Was it just resprayed with a type of engine style paint, enamel or sanded and gelcoat applied in new colour?

It was a paint respray, but know nothing about paint type, prep, etc. Sorry can’t help regards that. It wasn’t new gelcoat.
If you’re gonna diy then they’ll be plenty advice on here on how to. I took the sensible option (for me) and towed it to Whitham Glassfibre for an extensive refurb, who arranged the respray of the console, anchor locker and transom boxes.

I repainted a ex-military zodiac from gray to white. Used Sterling linear polyurethane, tip and roll method. Came out nice.

In the USA I would now use EMC brand paint. Some sort of amazing LPU mixture that is repairable, you can repaint and sand/buff to perfection. Also tip and roll-able by home users or you can spray.

Ribraff on here (ED) is a boat colour changing genius. I’ve seen some of his gel coat work first hand. On his Facebook he is doing a hull at the mo. Not sure what technique.

I re gelled a console, deck and back seat. . Ended up paying for someone to finish it back then as it’s very labour intensive and I probably did it the hard way.

Some paints are well worth thinking about, but consider standing water, petrol spills and other boat life in your decisions. Gel is by far the hardest finish but hardest to do if your looking for perfection

Easy enough to do. International Perfection is a 2 part paint which is very easy to work work if you fancy doing it yourself. You can achieve a near perfect finish with a roller and brush. Prep is the key as is not rushing the job. Lots of people get worried about painting GRP; you needn’t be. On larger boats its very commonplace. If you want the ultimate finish then get it professionally finished in Awlgrip

Hmg polykote 4&1 primer
Acrythane A211 top coat

This is the easy route or gel.mixed with styrene but lots of sanding and polishing involved

Was a good console. Made by Ocean RIBs. Boat was a Redbay. I stuck it in there with plans for romantic weekends away. For some odd reason my girlfriend was less keen so we sold it.

I tried to track down the mould but no luck. Don’t think Windsor Brothers (who built Ocean) are still in business.

Tim and Nugent, both examples look great! Is it just a case of sanding the current coat to help it apply then brushing or rolling on? Does it go smooth without worrying about brush marks etc?

Ps Tim that does look like a great console! Not sure it would fit onto my 6.3m Ocean Pro (1.2m inside beam at front of console)

Decent prep is the key. In short yes you want to sand it. That console was done by rolling it on and then “tipping” it with a very expensive paint brush. (search on YouTube for the technique). You’re then left with a close to perfect smooth and imperfection free finish. Spraying gets you a slightly better result but harder to do in a DIY environment. I think it had about 8 coats, with a wet and dry sand between each one.

Just occurred to me that Nugent did the windscreen in the photo so it was a bit of a joint effort!

Looks great Tim , it's amazing what you can achieve with a roller and some polishing afterwards
