Antifouling

I plan to antifoul my new boat.

Looking at hard antifouling there is a HUGH difference in prices.

Does anyone ahve a good or bad things to say about the onles listed below.

Interspeed Ultra £80
XM 4000 £55
Compass Hard £45

Is there much difference in peformance ?.
Do any give much longer life, more tha 1 season ?.

Also outdrives, is it worth using the special "slippy"antifouling coating that you can get or do they tend to keep clean enough bu being mostly out of the water and the speed in use ?.

Thanks Gary

Antifouling

Hi

There was a thread on here not too long ago about antifouling and products etc. Have a look in the search section.

Are you planning on keeping the boat in the water all year then. I dont like antifouling personally i would rather take the boat out of the water 1 a month and give it a good clean. I know that the smooth finish coat is very good but also bloody expensive,

Julian

Go for the International Marine High Speed hard Plus the new outdrive paint they make you will not be dissapointed. The more you use the boat the smoother it becomes.

Beware of antifouling from companies like XM, Compass, etc, who don't manufacture it themselves, but act as a distributor. They can change manufacturers whilst keeping the same "brand" leading to compatability problems. This compatability problem is belived to be a myth by many, and I've never had a problem with different stuff each year on our hard boat, but major changes in chemical composition might get you in trouble one year!

Hi everyone

Sounds like paying the extra is worth it.

The RIB will be in the water 12 months a year (where all RIBS should be ).
Decided it was going to be too big to tow so didnt even bother with a trailer.

It will be coming out 1 or 2 times a year for the outdrive/engine service so think it would end up well weeded if not antifouled.

Thanks everyone, am going for the International Interspeed plus the "non stick" on the outdrive. With any luck it may last a couple of years.

Thanks Gary
