Antifoul waterline

Had a go at marking my waterline for antifoul and taping it up. I have to say it ended up just looking wrong so I gave up. The line over reverse chine was impossible and it looked odd on the up stand where it was in theory straight

Any smart ideas appreciated.

I had mine lasered. You'll get odd little Z lines under chines - your call whether to pull them out or leave them.

Laser level. You can hire them from HSS for the day.

I took mine to the beach one evening when it was totally calm and sea flat.
Anchored it in 2-3 ft. water.
Jumped out and marked front, back and middle water levels with pantone pen - both sides.
Just judged it with the roller between marks.
Antifouled 1" above marks, which turned out not a bad thing as I forgot I only had about one fifth of a tank of fuel.
With full 375l fuel its right on the mark.

Forgot to say that I took photos of her scumline after a few weeks afloat. I was then able to determine a fore and aft point to set the laser to.

He has his boot top painted on at varying widths to allow for the changes in perspective that the shape of the hull gives.

Traditionally the way to do it is to set two long horizontal (assuming the boat is level) battens, one at the bow and one at the stern so they are aligned with the waterline. You can then get a piece of string and by holding it at different points along each of the battens, you can mark the waterline at any point along the hull.

Alternatively you can dispense with the need for several helpers and borrow a laser level.

I tried a string pulled between the same place on both sides. Today I will level boat and hire a laser level and see how it goes. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for help

There's no need to level the boat if you know the waterline at the bow and the transom. You can just mess with the poor level until the two ends are right.

I'm afraid I did it the crude way I used the scum line formed on the rib as the guide for taping and it worked fine 👍

That's effectively what I did - the laser just made it handier! It's all down to a steady handy on the masking tape. TOP TIP - use good quality 3M tape - most DIY tape is sh1t

Yep good call I've been caught with that sh1t as well does not help the finish!!
