another rescue

PD - So on that basis you wouldn't try to talk someone down from Jumping off a bridge/shooting themselves etc Hmmm

I'm sure if he had family they were grateful. All well and good bailing from life, but it's a permanent solution to a usually temporary problem. Either way, even if not permanent/terminal, it ruins the lives of those around you, particularly if you just "disappear" with no closure.

To be fair this weekend's attempt was in a more sea worthy condition than the muppet going to Ireland.

Had he picked the right weather window, had the right gear, GPS, Maps, Compass, VHF etc. An attempt to get to IRELAND rather than the US in this weekend's boat might just have been reasonable... considering the things Frank Dye did with a boat 4 foot longer... (and I don't think Frank carried that much safety gear!)

I think even Frank would have thought that the US was ambitious in a Wayfarer though!

I agree 100%, but this guy probably thought that's just what he was doing until someone interfered. Until the day comes when we can go to the docs & get a prescription for an Exit pill, go home, get tucked up in bed with your family by your side & a bottle of good single malt, then there will always be the chance that innocents will get hurt. There's a bridge on the M1 near me which seems to be a favourite with jumpers, we had 2 last year & it causes chaos. M1 closed for the day & gridlock from Nottingham to Bradford. I response to HP, yes I would try & stop a jumper, not because I didn't want him/her take their own life, but for the inconvenience it would cause to innocents, plus pity the poor barsteward who's car/lorry he lands on. It's rude & inconsiderate. Would I stop someone trying to shoot themselves, like feck! I'd clear the area & let them get on with it First rule of first aid... limit the casualties

I'm not sure its particularly helpful to debate the best way to end it all on here.

Not a particularly good advert for Christchurch is it? An Eastern European desperate to get out (says the man who lives in Littlehampton).

He'd probably spent months getting all the way across Europe only to find Tucktonia wasn't there any more.
