CRIKEY, you guys can whinge and complain!! Just like a bunch of old Grumpy Men - lighten up??!!
Life's not that bad?

HMS input:
''It may interest everyone to know that we have a new website for RIBEX 2004 at and it highlights the special deal we have secured with Red Funnel ferries for a package price of just 10 which includes a return ferry ticket and entrance to the show...this is still well below the cost of entry to Southampton Boat Show! We have also secured substantially discounted crossings for exhibitors, and we have arranged a plentiful supply of visitors berths at the show so that people can bring their own RIBs, thus adding to the festival atmosphere.''

So...give it a go and support your fellow ribsters - who knows, you might actually enjoy yourself

Oi... stop making out we're all whinging!!

Daniel, Gingercoastie and me have as good as arranged a cruise, Tim's going if there's berthing (which, you tell us, there is, so that's sorted) and jackeen just wants to go to Cowes anyway. I've volunteered to help the ferret and flat cap brigade with berthing and parking, and Daniel's offering space on his RIB. Phil and Simmons0 sound like they're up for it...

So, you'd jolly well better be there, that's all I can say!

Ok Charles, I know you and HMS are buddies but couldn't he post on his own behalf?

My point remains valid. For my tenner (even if it includes a ride on the red jet) I would like to see more shoreside activities to make it worth while. If the full 3500 sq m of shoreside space is utilised with trade stands, exhibitions & refreshment so I can have a wander round, buy some kit and have a beer and burger with my mates then great. If theres half a dozen trade stands and the floating exhibits none of whom are going to take me out cos I dont want to buy one of their RIBS right now then its poor VFM.

Mebbe its the same for any RIB only show. Unless you are one of the 45% who are looking to buy a boat or 40% looking to buy an engine then whats there to tempt you? Actually do you think the 45 & 40% are cummulative? If so I'm part of the 5% who wants neither so perhaps the show is not aimed at me and I'd better shut up!

Alan

Interesting idea - i like the idea of the Solent this time, much closer than Plymouth and loads of interesting stuff to do.

On the fence about combining it with RIBex though, it might encroatch upon drinking time.

Right time of year though... are you willing to do as much organising this year Charles?

Charles, my guess is you've been roped into helping with either organising, driving a RIB or something similar. So how do we get paid to play with RIB's? I'm serious, sounds like a worthy cause for a weeks holiday to me!

Richard
Err, um - we were in Herm, where were you?
Hey, Richard, this is just gentle 'rib-tickling'

Daniel - my suggestion is to either contact RI directly and enquire about doing some work at the show for them - or contact potential exhibitors and ask them the same question.
As far as someone organising the next RibNet Conference - please step forward - anyone?!

Transparancy

As an International visitor from the Republic of Ireland, my last boat show was the excellent event at Southampton,I can understand peoples views about having an event at a location that suits the majority this is usually the way things go, however visitors from the Uk were only one of the many groups of visitors who usually frequent a show, I met Germans French speakers, Russians Irish etc etc at the Southampton event. As the Uk is in effect surrounded by countries ie Ireland and the rest of Europe who have a single currency I felt that if items were priced in Euro as well as GBP it is with absolute certanity that visitors from Euroland would part with more money as there is no need to be constantly working out the price difference and trying to do a quick comparison whilist being given the hard sell to see if you are being ripped off or getting a good deal.Outside of the Uk there isnt really much call for Sterling not with a strong European Currency, and I feel that Exibhitors are selling themselves short by not having the forsight to dual price items to give the visitors from outside the UK a chance to see transparancy of pricing. It wouldnt undermine the Sterling price but compliment it , because if you are getting a bargin there would be no reason not to price in Euros. In my opinion pricing in GBP merley limits the amount of stock a vendor can sell and a dual pricing system would be pretty simple to implement and catch the attention of those visiting from outside the UK.
