Anchor Chain & Rope

Can anyone help?
Is there a recpommendation that one should use when purchasing anchor rope & chain, as I have a 5.8 avon with a 140 motor and using a 5kg bruce anchor.

I will be mooring only inshore and basically looking at circa 25/30m of rope with about 4m chain, the problem I have is what thickness of rope/chain do i go for, and should i look at multiplat rope as its softer to handle and does not twist as much.

Can anyone suggest the best possible solution please, otherwise im just going to sit there and drift..lol

Thanks

Your definatly better of with the multiplait, as you say much softer easy handling, I feed mine straight into the bow locker and it deploys easy with no messing, the wider the better really up to 18 mm you'll get a much better grip easing the hauling, you could use min 10mm no problem though, as for length, its worth having a spare line even if just three strand, incase you brake down off shore with offshore wind and tides, or to stop you drifting into a shiping lane. with 30m you'll be restricted to 10m safe anchoring in a chop with tide etc,

My boat is just a little longer than yours and I have a 9kg CQR anchor with 20m of 8mm chain and 50m of 12mm multiplait with another 50m length as backup. I hate anchoring and so decided not to skimp on the tackle.

Chain - 6mm, 4m minimum. 10m better.

plus

Rope - whatever size feels comfortable in the hand - minimum 30m. The more the better if you need to keep yourself off a lee shore.

I have (In the 6.5 Scorpion) 7.5kg Bruce, 10m 6mm chain and 30m multiplat of about 14mm. Holds a treat.

The MCA chart says For a 7m vessel it is recommended that you have:
9kg with 10m of 8mm chain and 20m of 12mm warp (30m of overall length). This may be reduced by up to 20% (but not the length) ( I would recommend the reduced diameter as its only a light RIB)

I know I'll get shot down in flames, but who cares
have a look at these, I've been using one since early last season, excellent for holding the rib in most conditions and saves dragging chain over the tubes. May not be the best in rough weather, but how often do we need that in reality?

Liros Leaded Rope Anchor Line - 30m x 12mm - Only £99.95 - Force 4 Chandlery

Try your local commercial fisherman /ship chandlers for pot lead line
Not bought any for about 5 /6 years or so but you could get it in few different sizes and lays , without finding the receipt think last I bought from a rope makers in Leeds was
£110 plus twat for 200 Metres of 14 mm poly/lead core , it's what's used for crab pots or the smaller 8 mil braid stuff as weight line on gill nets
Downside for anchoring with the commercial poly /steel ( no steel in it just a term) is that it has very little if no stretch in it at all
But its great for towing boat up the slip if it parts as there's very little whip back Unlike nylon .

Try this lot too, not sure what they are like but seems a reasonable deal to me.
