Anchor bracket

Hi all

I've always lined the anchor locker in the Bow of my Ocean with old rubber car mats then put the anchor on top of the warp followed by the chain to hold it down.

After the rough trip to Yarmouth at the begining of October I open the locker to find the anchor underneath everything else, it had been bouncing about on the inside of the hull

Yesterday afternoon I knocked up this bracket out of 1 inch stainless box section and tube I had laying around.
The idea is, it bolts to the bulkhead inside the locker and I have a pad of soft rubber that I'll put on top so its held in place when I put the locker hatch back on. The shaft will rest on a car mat glued down near the bow.

Neat. With a bit of modification, that would make a nice aux outboard bracket.

A loop of shockcord will hold the anchor in place nicely.

Good idea Nasher - I also use car mats from Tesco - 99p each!!! I don't think the CQR anchor is very easy to stow as the hinge causes it to move around. The Delta - which is basically a solid CQR seems much easier to stow and performs even better on test. Not cheap though.

Hi Nasher, you are quite the man with a weld kit.. Stainless S and all, nice work and neat welds.

If I may suggest a Rubber Bucket (not Plastic) also Codprawn right again about the fixed CQR.

Hi "Codders" you got a hammering about that Insurance thing,,, undeserved If I may add. Thats been the situ here with semi state bodies for years. I would not like to be underwriting my risk for the money involved regardless of 15k or 500k. FOr the sake of a few hundred pounds and its much more over here, its a peace of mind thing. Sides, there are many "forign reg cars over here that have questionable insurance"

I had the same issue and a clever fellow in Antrim solved it by gluing the mat to the inside of the locker,

I did think of just doing that, but considered it not the right approach. The point and sides of the anchor are quite sharpe. and because its jumping about could still do some damage, you may not even see it because you can't lift the mat out when washing the salt water residue out the locker. The warp is what protected the inside of my hull, more than the mats.

Think how much momentum a 10lb anchor has jumping about up in the bow, all that force transfered through the edge of the anchor won't be retarded much by 3 or 4mm of rubber.

If you take some hypalon and glue it to the supports it will give it some "grip" did this on my boat and it worked quite well, nice welding job...

I had'nt missed that, I'm getting a mod designed for one on the samson post (by a clever chap with a pencil) when it's done I'll post the picture.

great idea for the anchor...very skillful.
