I will back up DM on at least two of those categories....from personal experience.... Hobby Bobbies and trotters... "Gimme a medal, gimme a medal".... but don't forget trotters get paid.. they are NOT volunteers...

This reminds me of a story told...........

..........by my father in law who is now a retired policeman.

A yob sprays "all coppers are bastards" on a wall (insert coppers/rnli/firemen/st johns ambulance/specials etc etc where appropriate), anyway, upon returning home he finds his house burglarised.

What does he do ?

He phones the "bastard coppers" for help !

Anyone willing to volenteer to assist, help or even save me my family or even the god damn dog deserves a little more respect in my opinion. Paid or otherwise.

For the most part I would agree with you. Unfortunately there are those who "volunteer" for motives that are less than pure. I've certainly met more than a few, who think that the "uniform" will get them respect that they can't achieve in their normal existence. Sad but true. Ask any "professional" who works with "volunteers" side by side and they will confirm what I am saying. Not the case in most instances, but enough to make me very wary of certain "volunteer" types.... give me a professional who does it for cold, hard cash everytime...

Whilst not wanting to turn this into a NHS v VAS debate, there is good and bad in every walk of life.
It is a sad fact that the volunteers are judge by the few who show the rest of us in a bad light.

There a a few bad apples in the full paid sector too but am sure DM is the salt of the earth
