Its obviously of some sort of marine grade ali. The original paint wasn't doing anything but trapping salt and water on the metal enhancing its corrosion power and duration. If it didn't corrode through under those conditions, it doesn't require paint for corrosion protection. It will corrode less now in an unpainted condition.

Any boat builder using non-marine grade ali in a boat should just be shot anyway.

Mine only looks a bit ratty underneath the nameplate stickers, those trap water & salt.

I wouldn't paint it Neil, painting ally is a waste of money.

I'm not planning too Dave looks a hundred times better now, if I paint I'll be soda blasting again before I know it. If the finish stays more or less as it is I'm well happy
