Alan Priddy

I have just returned from a holiday during which I read the book "Confronting Poseidon" which tells the story of Alan's trip around the world in a RIB as recommended by the forum. On my return I sat down and caught up with the postings I had missed and saw Alans name. His credabilty rating is "appears to talk sense" which is exactly the same as mine. How bizarre is that, Alan went around the world in a RIB and up until now the furthest I,ve managed is to get just outside the safety of Milford Haven towards Skomer. Anyway the book is a brilliant read and I take my hat off to Alan for his achievements but I would suggest after reading the book his rating should be changed to something like " Very knowledgeable man but of questionable sanity ". Before anyone rants at me this is purely complimentary and a twisted way of applauding his efforts. The book has inspired me to plan an attempt at a circumnavigation of Skomer from Milford in my 5m RIB a journey of approximately 25 miles. Anyone interested in sponsoring me?

Have you read the account of Alan's first Atlantic crossing in 1997 in 'Alan Priddy does it again... Beating the Big One'? The ISBN is 0 9520305 5 1. It also contains short summaries of his 'preparation' trips: Round Scotland, Round Britain, Round Ireland and across the Bay of Biscay.

I met Alan P a month ago at my home town where we invited him down to give us his round the world talk and i can vouch for the fact he's completely nuts but what a nice bloke !!

If you've not attended one of his lectures i'd urge anyone interested in hardship, boats and guerilla warfare to do so.

Not Compleately Mad?

Hi All,

As you may have read from previous threads another Trans Atlantic Crossing will take place later this year (August). This time reversing his route; another first for Alan to add to his list of many.

I have been given an opportunity of a lifetime to experience exactly what it is like going across this vast expanse of water.

I must be compelatly mad or certafiable but having read all of Alan's book's his exploits are what have inspired me to attempt to have a go myself.

Thanks Mate for giving me this opportunity.

I know that with the combined experience of Alan & Egbert it will truly be a memorable trip. I hope that we will be able to relay pictures back and messages of what it is like for all of you to see for yourself's.

I would also like to say a very big thank you to Froglover for letting me go. Without your surpport it would not have been possible.

I look forward to seeing a lot of you at Ribex.

Regards
Kevin

Kevin

I think you must be mad but life is too short to worry about such things. Go for it my friend and when you return you will have achieved something very few have done and there will be plenty to talk about.

Keep the forum updated on the progress of this great adventure

There and Back

Aging Youth;
Great seeing you again at Gunwharf--when Spirit was docking last week it was very emotional for me as last time on our Trans Atlantic my late wife Roma was on dock to welcome us "Home".
Going anywhere with Alan is always an " adventure" so be prepared for the ride of your life--look forward to our trip.
