Aerodynamic windbreak

Anyone know of a design that can be incorperated into a low windscreen that at speed would deflect the wind over the heads of the crew? Like in a F1 car.

the yanks use a reverse lip on their windscreen less boats. I think cookee has incorparated something similar. I dont think its strictly aerodynamic but it deflects the wind which is probably alot more important... ill look for a pic

what about a motorcycle screen, they call it a double bubble screen,!!

Do a google image search for aeroscreens - may give you a few ideas - as used on many vintage racing cars etc.

It is going to be some size to deflect the wind over your head

You think so? I'd have hoped to have kept the screen as small as possible.

The faster you go the smaller the screen needs to be - like a wing on a plane.

I you're talking about a jockey seat RIB, I reckon you won't manage it. You need to keep your head far away from the screen to cope with the lurching and RIB speeds are relativley slow so you'll not get laminar flow to come off the screen and stream upwards that distance. You might be able to arrange a situation where the screen is a spoiler and you sit in the turbulance, which could be a bit less airy than standing in the breeze.

Just my guess, of course.

Might work JW, I'm not worried about messing up my hair these days, just something that was more comforable. It's also a subject that no ones mentioned as yet, but could benefit many.

I agree with you that shelter is worth having. Why do you want to have a low screen? Is it a southerner's styling thing?

Well yes and no.

I do like a low screen as it's sylish and means that there's no obsured view when things get rough.

However a large screen is only really usefull when you need that shelter, but a catch 22 happens and you don't really get the visibility.

I thought that someone on here would have experience of a happy compromise and might even a have an ingenious solution to the problem and like to share this.

I remember my Dad's first car, it had a large screw and handle on the dash which opened the bottom of the screen. Climate control...what more could you want?.

Yes we do have one of these on our 770 - works very well indeed, however it's a bit "built in"!
