Advice, SR4 console or side by side????

Hi all,

Having now got myself well and truly addicted to ribbing (still working on the wife ) i'm looking at selling my valiant and buying a SR4 having read so many threads on how good they are on this site.

I'd like to think i'm fairly (ish) confident in doing most of the work myself but am i better off looking for a SR4 already with jockey layout or getting one of the older side by side versions and changing it across.

Are there any benefits in changing it myself or should i keep hunting for a SR4 already with console which i can just launch and have fun with.

I've found a couple on boats and outboards, one is the old style and the other with a console. The only thing that puts me off this console one is that they have had it for sale for over a year, that tells me something might not be quite right, especially as they seem to be so hard to get hold of.

Thanks, matt.

Later 'Deluxe' (bonnet, windscreen, dashboard, bucket seats) versions of the SR4 have a GRP deck which will have the fixings in place for an Avon centre console. If you plan on fitting a non-Avon console to a Deluxe deck, then you'll have to fix down to the GRP - not as easy as fixing down to a plywood deck, which most of the open/centre-console versions have.
Finding a genuine Avon centre console may be difficult/expensive. I've got a spare one here from an SR4.7, but it won't match the bolt pattern fixings of an SR4.

The one I have seen has the bonnet, and seats etc so should be ok, but if its going to end up being an expensive way to go with the cost of decent consoles with a pattern match then i'm probably better off being patient and waiting for an SR4 to turn up with a console i think.

Does it have a 'Deluxe' GRP deck? Earlier ones didn't. Those with a plywood deck have 1" diameter stainless stay bars from the transom to the deck.
I was trying to point out that fixing a console to a GRP deck won't be impossible, just a bit more detail needed to get a good fix than with plywood (assuming the ply isn't rotten )
Deluxe boats tend to be more pampered than rescue versions, so you may find a cleaner example for the same money

Screw it down!
I'd have a console rather than the porn seats.

Argh, in which case i'm not sure. I dont think i can quite see from the photos so will have to give them a call to see what version it is.

Porn seats hadnt thought of them that way..... Console it is.

I will keep searching. Anyone seen the one from Jaykay marine before or could tell the rough age of it, also any pointers on what to keep an eye out for when looking at buying a searider?

The blokes says this one http://search.boatshop24.co.uk/boatd...rnalbrokerlist has had the flooding hull blocked up and a hatch put in up front, but as its stood for about a year they opened up the holes again at the back to ensure it stays dry. My concern is its been for sale for so long there might be something wrong with it. I dont fancy getting caught with my pants down, so to speak....

Also appears to be the deluxe version as i cant see the bars at the back.

Yes it's the deluxe deck-see the GRP sloping up towards the transom instead of the bars?

Tubes look rather tatty and dull which is probably why it's still for sale.

Super work, thanks for that, at least i will be able to tell the difference now.

Thats what i thought re the tubes, they look like they have seen better days. Apparently they yard said it would be about £100 to re do the patches for the rope.

I'm happy for them to look tired provided they are going to last but i suppose thats the chance you take...... maybe i will avoid this one. Looking at previous threads i'm thinking £3,000 is overpriced.
