I'm based on the IOW and spent many, many hours on the Solent, including crewing for Cowes inshore lifeboat. I've just sold a Phantom ( 20 with a 280hp ) and I'm looking for something more family friendly.

Criteria:-

Up to 20K, (poss 25k)
Outboard
Leisure / fishing / fun
Towable - going to be kept at home
Seats up to 6
I'm thinking a 6-7m??

What makes should I be keeping an eye out for and are there any I should steer away from.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Lee

I had tried to make a subtle reference in my post, but it might have been a little too subtle... and a bit of a white lie. But never mind, I'm sure I've helped you in some little way.

Thanks for the advice so far, going for a sea trial in a humber this weekend - not sure if it's for me but we'll see. The Vipermax's look very nice, are they ok in chop / rough solent conditions?

Regards

Hi Lee
I know people seem to either love them or hate them, but I'd have a look at a 6.5m Ballistic. We had one for 2 years (went bigger last year) and it's a bit like driving a volvo rather than a motorbike. Very stable and dry, and lots of seating for the family. We used it a lot in the Solent + further afield and it coped really well in rough /choppy conditions whilst keeping the family feeling safe.
Trevor
