Advice on covers

Hi guys,
can anyone advise on the best place to go to get a cover for my Mercury 420?
I need to cover it during transit from home to the coast, and then potentially cover it while it is moored on the water.
Any help appreciated.

Had mine made at seaswan told them which boat job done well happy with it

The cover is in good condition and has no holes but I ended up getting a longer one that goes over the engine. This one is slightly short of the transom but only because of the height of the jockey seat, it would reach otherwise. You might also get an engine cover.

Personal preference but I would never tow with a cover, even just a jockey seat cover as they will get damaged, chafe or the eyelets will tear.

Must get my garage extension concrete slab laid soon and free up the patio!

i had the mercury one to start with it disintegrated before 12 months fabric problem so got the seaswan it fits over the engine with a belly band all round it i tow with mine on no issues

Time will tell. How old is it and what price did you pay?

i dont know the price as it was part of the package but i paid £80 extra for the seaswam inc post on a warranty claim

Mine's over five years old and still looks good so I understand your disappointment. Certainly no degradation issues, it sounds like you had a different material who knows?

I've been disappointed with covers in the past and also for my caravan. Important they are able to protect the boat against a discarded cigarette end, some people have no respect. The Mercury fabric is similar thick material like used on a caravan towing hitch cover. I'll check out the Seaswan brand for sure when the replacement is needed though.

Mercury covers are over £300 new I believe, I'm looking for £80.

thats a good price.
my cover had hardly any material in the weave just plastic possibly a roll end i dont know still they refunded me with no probs

You know I had a quote from Southampton boat show for a cover - a very nice cover, but a cover all the same , and for a 6m boat I was quoted something like £2-3,000!![emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]

Sorry for the late reply, I've been "off grid" for a few days. Just catching up with the comments. How old is you cover and was it originally for a Mercury 420?
I can't quite tell from the picture, but does it "clip" to the hull or do you have to tie it underneath the whole boat?

The original owner got it with the Ocean Runner 420 boat package. It ties to the trailer in 6 places, the 460 cover I now have has clips and thin elastic cord around the hull which doesn't work as well. The elastic needs to be as strong as a bungee for it to have any chance.
