Adventurers guide to Britain

Not a life jacket in sight as they sit on the tubes of a rib at speed

The programme was on itv just now ( sorry should have made it clearer) 2 presenters were out along the Pembroke coastline in a yellw Humber rib looking for dolphins. Sat on the tubes with their compulsary north face jackets and no life jackets. Skipper was shown without one also.

Maybe they could combine seaside rescue and their programme together!

I'm not saying I haven't been out without a life jacket before but I'm guessing for them to use the boat for the tv filming it would have been coded and a commercial operation.

Ah well, each to their own!

Here (Irish Republic) that WOULD be illegal. I understand that this is not the case in the UK. Personally, I'd let them get on with it. Plenty more pretty/hunky presenters in the queue. They could name some worthy Charity Event in their honour.

I'm sure they'll be OK though guys - they have to be on again next week.

Interesting for ITV , as we have done some BBC support and they insist on knowing about what safety equipment is carried, what lifejackets are issued and also they want to read terms and conditions and safety policy/ risk assessments. They would not book unless we gave all these over to them.

I meant what was described sounded like the kind of irresponsible scenario that could end up requiring the services of the RNLI.

A while ago as some of you may remember there was a problem at Lytham St Annes, with cocklers, I was approached by the Sunday Mirror to take them out to the cockle beds, I quoted a Price and was told straight away that I was too expensive, as 2 members of one of the emergency services had taken the BBC out the day before at half the rate I had quoted. They apparently showed up in a car, took an inflatable out of the boot, inflated it, attached the engine and off they went don't know if lifejackets were provided or not, but pretty sure there will have been no insurance definitely no coding, probably no qualified skipper, etc etc.

Merry Christmas to you too Tim,

TBH i'm always careful to price work such that if we don't win i am comfortable that we didn't want it as we wouldn't have been able to do it justice for the lower winning price.

We've ended up doing a fair amount of media stuff over the past two years, and what's required for filming work seems to differ so much from Prod co. to Prod co. With my Proj mgt Consultants background I am pretty keen on the RA side of things.....some clients love it, others seem taken aback when you present them with the paperwork

Still haven't seen who's boat was used.....will have a nosey when i get chance.

Off to do a couple of water quality surveys now.....last day afloat tomorrow, then a day in the workshop with the Pac......looking forward to a week with the family over Christmas, so if i don't sign in beforehand, here's wishing all RIBnetters.....

Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd dda!

Used to do a lot with TV, film etc and the BBC were always the hottest on the lifejackets and minimising risks - looks like the news department can afford to lose a few!

We always quoted for doing it all properly as others on here and started losing more and more stuff - haven't done anything for quite a while now!

The Link to ITV player is: Video - ITV Player.

There were five people in the RIB - one in a blue coat seemed to be wearing white straps over the front of her coat with a black strap down the back - I think this is a LJ.

The other four-skipper, presenter & cameraman(?) had wet/dry suits on for snorkelling.

Do divers wear LJs on the way to/from a dive site?

As there were two RIBs travelling together on a fairly flat sea how high was the risk bearing in mind the name of the program.

Later on when they went coasteering they had buoyancy aids on.

Despite all the above when I plan to go snorkelling - I shall wear a LJ when in the RIB.

.
Very little risk.

Seeing this on television must have come as great joy to our resident Traffic Warden, Zippy.

He's got form has our Zippy, tut-tutting clipboard at the ready and if possible a camera to capture anyone daring to use a RIB without abiding to his health and safety rules.

Straight on to Ribdotnet with a full report of any misdemeanor... and if possible posting a picture for all to see.

Snap - we work many times every year with the BBC and they still ask to see the safety policy lifejacket service history etc on every booking
