Gary, if you go to the RYA website and submit a request for an Advanced Powerboat exam (assuming you have a suitable boat for the exam), they will put it out to local examiners and find someone for you. The fee is fixed, so there is no additional cost to you if the examiner has to travel a bit further. You don't need to find an examiner - they will find you

What he said!

My examiner came from Hereford (to Hull) for my exam.

Thanks Ian and all.

If you use your own boat then I guess you can nominate the port/slip that you want to use?

Thanks

Yes. You'll also need to provide somewhere close by which is suitable to do the theory/written part of the exam.

Correct. The Examiner may have a view as to whether or not the area you choose is suitable or not (if it was me I'd be looking for evidence that there is enough of a challenge with the navigation by day and by night, areas to demonstrate skill in close-quarters handling, and a suitable venue for the theory part).

Happy to give you my opinion on boat and venue if you pm me

Good luck with the exam
