I think that my intention was always to go for the XL transom!

Vis a vis fishing, I may hoik a line once a year, but I won't let this impact on my choice. I think I am set with Osprey, but thank you for informing me that they are a Belgian outfit, I will ask Roy if purchasing direct from hq would reduce price?!

There is a smaller (5.8m) Osprey here (http://www.professional-boat-sales.c...boatslist.aspx) for £20k and that will be a turn the key and go job. Although I must admit, if I had the extra £10k i'd also go for the biggest I could get. It would certainly make an enormous difference compared to the Pro 7 crap you have. I know it's crap, I had one !

My mistake although their spelling errors make you think they are from Belgium. The web site says they are "build" in the UK or Cyprus and assembled in Belgium.

I have a 200 Optimax hanging on the back of mine+ 15 two stroke mercury aux + 25 litres of fuel for the aux and a radar on top of the A frame
It's not sunk and lands fine from some nice air
Performance is just under 50 knots at 5200 rpm very similar to a 7m with a 250 Etec
I've been told I can squeeze another 2-3 knots by lifting the engine and playing with the prop size but I don't need more speed, I'm happy
as it is
some good runs in the lochs this week

Loving 50 knots+ its a nice round number unlike 43 haha! I think a straight etec 200 is the way to go unless a nice ho comes up. From what you say a suzu will probably wreak the balance of the boat?! Is a 15hp aux neccessary, i have a little 2.6 sib with a 3.3 merc could I use this or is you 1hp/m really important, 15hp sounds like it would get you on the plane!!!!!???

I would think under 5HP you'd have trouble punching tide. A 9.9 would be very good.

the 9.9 is usually a detuned bigger engine it's got something to do with a french tax break. I think. It should fit on the transom easy.

no worries about the photies if there of use to you that's good enough for me

So do I, a yam ft9.9 (is the ft high thrust worth it over the sandard 9.9?) and an etec 200 in white and maroon/red tubes to keep in the bloodline of the pro I think i'll pass on the high output an get a standard 200 or just 175. At some stage I imagine I will ask for the names of some of your suppliers so that I can source from the same place to keep cost down adios, Gotchi

I understand that no Vipermax owner would be seen in anything other than red this season with Mr. Bish leading the way. But, bear in mind, the sun prefers blotchy pink to red. Only a thought.

A little unfair to compare the Pro 7 with a Humber Assault as it's hardly a like for like comparison, 4.2m v 5.3m, different engine, etc. The Pro 7 is a starter RIB with shallow V hull primarily for the leisure boating market. Just back from the west coast of Lewis where the weather was mixed, with around F5 everyday in the Atlantic. Still had fun though, and always felt safe.

No, I had a Pro7 before I had the Humber

In France you didn't need a boat driving licence if the engine was under 10hp. I don't know if that is still the case though.

Yes, this used to be the case, and there used 2 b two types of licence above this limit, "Carte Mer" ( up to 50hp) and Permis cotier (ICC equiv) however the lav changed a couple of yrs agpo and now its 6.6, and the Carte Mer has been dropped, just the permis cotier is tested. However for last year new rules came in stating that you could ask for equivelance from another licence, so the holder of an ICC can automatically gain a Permis cotier however, a permis coteir only allows you 6miles FROM A SHELTER, not just from general land, however, Alderny is less then 12miles from Cherbourg, and recently we have found that there is a little fishermans hut rest place kinda oasis in the middle of the sea halfway to Jersey which we plan on using to say that we are within 6m from a shelter... (Les ecrous i think)eeekk I do ramble on a bit...!

Back on topic, is an aux really neccessary? I have a service like sea start which covers most of the areas I generally go to, but what about outside of these areas? Halfway to Jersey, direct from St Mako will just a 9.9 be able to get me home safely? Or is it useless and not worth it, and far easier to call the coastguard in that situation??!!
