you would need to check the makers plate, should be on the transom somewhere.

edit- some reading based on a quick google, max would be 60-80hp (depending on model) on newer models, not sure about the age this one though.

the engine weighs 153kg from what i could find, i can't find a max transom weight for the boat though, more google work would probably yield that info.

cheers

if you ask for any 5m RIB ratted for 100 HP (not only ZODIAC) there are few models mentioned below:

Sportis (Polish manufacture ) 4,8m 110 HP max
SPORTIS - ?odzie RIB - RIB boats

Zodiac mentioned by you is a little overpowered.

Neither can I, it's got a DT100 on the back. Apparently it's been on there for years, would anybody be concerned about the amount it's overpowered by?

you need to check the transom plate before you confirm it is over powered.

i would be more concerned with the weight than the HP.

it may be very stern heavy with that engine.

cheers

I have a Bombard Explorer 5m which I believe is the same hull as the Zodiac. The Bombard has a recommended maximum of 70hp. Mine has 60hp, and I believe that 100hp would be excessive and possibly dangerous given the light weight of these boats.

Zodiac Pro12

I have a Zodiac Pro12 which is now called the Pro 550. 5.2 metres long and mine has a Suzuki 90bhp four stroke. The hull is rated for that size of engine.

Its fitted with doel fins and last year I tried it without them, but turned right around and came back in refitted them.

One word “scary”!

Brian.

What's the max engine weight on the Bombard explorer? I believe the DT100 is about 150KG

In Croatia when you have an accident and engine exceeds details on plate you will be punished and automatically you are guilty of accident.

Not sure what regulation do you have in UK ?

I have a 5.25 m Zodiac Pro Open 550. It's shorter than the full 5.5m due to stub end tube design for that model. With a 90 its fast enough but its rated to 115. A 90 gives me about 40 kn lightly loaded at WOT. Acceleration is good and pulls a skier well. 100 would not be over powered on that boat at all.

My Zodiac Pro 530 (5.3m) is plated to 120HP max. There is no max weight but 120's of its era were around the 150 - 170kg so I assumed that it would be fine with that weight on the back. I'll know if i was right when we get some decent weather.
