45 degree take off

Took the rib out yesterday for an engine test.
When setting off the bow raises to a silly hight, I'd guess to just over 45 degree's until it slips over the hump and it's off. This is way more of an angle than it should be.
What I know that didn't help is the fuel tank being in between the transom struts due to me having to cut the fuel line short because of a split. It's also got the flooding hull again and I can guess this will make it arse end heavy as it empties?
It could just be because of that but it also feels like the engine needs to be trimmed in more.
Any thoughts?

I owe thanks to the RNLI as well. I was pulling the boat back onto the trailer when the winch snapped. It recoiled back at me and wound around my finger, cleanly braking the bone. What would the odds on that be?

By the time I'd composed myself again the water had gone and the hull was sat on the concrete slip. Passing RNLI and ferry crew helped me to lift it back onto the trailer. With out them I would have had a long wait till the next tide.

I think a few of them drag there bums along to start bow sky high especially flooding hull still enabled so to speak- mine certainly has done before inc the Sr4 - nature of the beast and there a lot of possible factors, ie head wind, weight distribution etc etc, my 22litre tank is at the back also + I also sometimes have the other 22litre strapped down at the front which may make a slight difference

Im sure NOS and the other boys will have comments to make

Cheers Olly, hurts like hell today.

It could be the way it is but it seemed too extreme. Maybe when the new consoles in further forward with the tanks up there too it will be better. The 4m I had did shoot it's bow up like any planning hull but this is more a case of hang on so you don't slide off.

If you have passengers with you send them up to the bow until you are on the plane.

Hows the pinky mate?

Engine wants trimming all the way in to start with.
A friend had a Humber Assault which wouldn't plane unless you moved weight up front, after that it took off.

Ouch!!!

With the weight of a 115 on there I'd close the flooding hull and start off trimmed all the way in. Olly's right-it's quite common with the flooding hull open.

Engine was fully trimmed in. IS there any scope for adjustment to make them rim in further? Or is that another classic JSP stupid question?

Fingers doing my head in, feel like cutting the bloody thing off!

Don't really want to cap off the hull. It's one of the reasons I like Seariders. Bit if needs be and as Downhilda says, RIBs are stable at rest anyway.

Fins will be putting the anti-ventiltion plate under a LOT of strain with the weight of water shifting astern. I don't think I've ever seen a Searider with maxed out HP with them on either.

Like you say u got quite a hefty rather lovely lump on the back for starters - see how u you get on after shifting the console and stuff forwards - meantime get a mate to go up front for a few seconds

Sorry to hear about the finger mate, could have been a lot worse by the sound of it though.

As everyone has alread said it is a largish lump you have on the back, but are you sure its trimming right in?

My old 150 Johnson had a stop bar/pin that could be adjusted in a series of holes to limit the amount the engine would trim in. I eventually threw it away so it sat on the cast in stops as I was sure it wasn't in far enough.
Got any close up piccies of it trimmed in so we can see?

Pretty much bang on then-you might be able to swing using a 13x21" but there's not a lot of point unless you want to hit warp speed.

Nah, setting the boat up right is the easier option! It'll make a BIG difference getting the fuel forwards-your engine alone weighs as much as my engine and 75 litres of fuel...
