4 metre searider or flatacraft?

Which would you choose assuming they have both the same size engines 40hp?

Searider.
Mainly because there the hull is a deeper v (better rough weather handling) and I prefer the seating. Whilst there are Seariders about still with back to back seating there are more centre console seariders than cente console Flatacrafts on the secondhand market. Having said that this Flatacraft on ebay looks to be a very honest boat: Flatacraft Force 4

Flatacraft have a flat GRP front with a velcroed flap. This can be ripped open when hitting waves and let copious amounts of water in.

Having said that because I have knowledge of both types of boat if the Flatacraft is at the right price its certainly worth considering.

Don't dismiss the Flatacraft. Its not as good as a Searider but its better than a Seasport/Deluxe or SIB, its probably on a par with a Humber Assault. I say that because although the assault doesn't have the flat front with velcroed cover its hull is a lot flatter than a Flatacraft. Like anything to do with boats its a difficult decision to make because there are so many variations. Not only do you have to consider the boat but also the engine, trailor, steering, electrics, price etc etc.

Bought one just about 1 hr ago.

A Flatacraft with a 40 mercury PT&T quite a new engine so should be good.

Will be out at the weekend going to Portsoy small boat festival.

Enjoy it. All RIBs are good and my mate who had a Flatacraft for a year with a 30 HP Yamaha on it certainly had a good time. He went round the IOW twice in it and at the time it was the best boat in my little group. I was quite envious of him.
