2001 Marlin 29, Twin Merc 220HP Petrol... Opinons ?

Hi again,

The truth is I was going for a Scropion or Cobra around 8.5 meters, but during my research I accidentaly found a 2001 Marlin 29 with twin Mercruisers 220 HP each. This specific boat is the cabin version in the bow and a WC/shower below the console. She needs a little personal work, wood-teak work mostly. The engines were just serviced and I saw the invoice from Mercruiser Greece my self. She is full of electronics... even auto pilot!!!. And the price is nearly 30K euros which is a good price in Greece.

Having two kids make me think of this cabin rib alot. I may lose in speed and chopy waves, but I could use the extra space for my family instead.

To be honest three things stop me from going to the Marlin option:
1. Tubes show not to be in a good condition. On top and the bottom near the stern. This boat has been in the marina for 3 months each summer and 9 months on the treiler.
2. Engine seem to be in a great condition, but still they are 8 years old.
3. Last but not LEAST = Seaworthiness vs Scorpion/Cobra/etc....

Offshore is good for me but my kids & wife will respect space more...
