with the weather looking like its going to get even colder here in the South tonight, is anyone here worried that they haven't winterised they're outboards?

Mines in a dry stack 20' off the ground and i just prey its gonna be ok!

Providing there are no pockets of water in the engine or impellor housing then you'll be OK

Yep-winterising is to stop the engine seizing and the fuel system gumming up while standing unused for long periods. No need to worry.

dunno what you laydees are getting fussed about , we had -15 in Glasgow ten years ago .. the squeezie bottle of washing up liquid froze in the kitchen window, as did the dishwasher in the kitchen, and the next day I went to run a bath .. all the bath water ran down in side the house as it has frozen on the way out on the pipe outside so get a grip you girls

And as for global warming .. dont start me grrrr ... no ... brrrrrr

Did a bit of concreting yesterday, had to mix up with boiling water as the sand and agg were frozen.

Need to get on with stone walling, the stones are welded together and the soil frozen solid. We're not used to such conditions down this way.

You do need to be certain that the lower unit drains completely after you haul out. I always lower the engine right down once the boat is on the trailer. If it's below freezing, I'll turn the engine over for a couple of seconds to blow out any water around the impellor. You also want to be certain that there isn't any water in the gear lube. I've seen cracked lower units as a result of this.

Of course all of this is based on fresh water operation. I suppose you salty types get a few degrees of leeway!

I've used my boat in sub-zero temps for years and never had a problem...

Cold? you lot dont know what cold is. Try using your rib as an ice breaker in Greenland as we did in 1997. Outside for 36 hours bloody cold and we still had to pay for a Danish Ice breaker to get us into harbour.
Not one of my better ideas. Must give up drinking !!!!
