Total newbie

Hi guys

A quick note to say hi. At the weekend we bought our first ever boat, a Zodiac 340, which we are looking forward to gently meandering up and down the Thames in.

We are total freshers so thanks in advance for your patience with any daft questions I am sure to have!

Do you have the air or solid floor? What outboard do you use with it?

Hi David

It’s a solid floor, and we’ve got a 20hp Honda outboard. Both very slightly used but brought the price down a bit.

The next step is actually launching it into the water. At the moment the prospect is daunting to say the least.

great little boat you have there we use a zodiac 310 zoom at work its lasted two years with loads of abuse enjoy

That should be a nippy outfit with 20hp!

Is it on a trailer or will you be setting up at the water's edge and using transom wheels? I guess you have a slipway in mind... with that OB it's a bit heavy to push down a grassy bank!

The really daunting bit is that our local slipway is next door to a pub with all outdoor seating! Nothing like having an audience...!

It’s on a trailer, but does have transom wheels. Ideally we want to use the wheels but we’re mindful of the weight. Also the slipway is quite steep. I think we’re going to have to practice on the driveway a few times.

You might want to leave it for a week or so until the water levels come down a bit. The Thames is absolutely tanking along at the moment, so make sure you keep well clear of the weirs if you can't wait to get on the water.

You've got a good spot though, Cookham to Maidenhead is absolutely stunning

Thanks John. Yes, warnings everywhere at the moment so no danger of us taking our first ventures for a while yet! No hurry though, gives us time to plan a little more.

Thanks John, it’s a beautiful place. But you’re right, warnings everywhere at the moment so no danger of us taking our first ventures for a while yet. No hurry though, gives us time to plan a little more.
