I suspect the plate is the retaining plate for the cables - this goes over them close to where they enter the engine cowling.

Reattaching cables shouldn't take more than 10 mins. Post a piccy of the starboard side of the engine with the hood off and we should be able to talk you through it.

It's easier to show pictures than explain. The bottom cable that fits to the sliding pin is the gear linkage.

The plate in your pic is in my pic 2&3

Hope this is of some use.

If you need more just ask.

I've just had a thought, your plate has the recess for the cable retainer, you should have a piece of metal that looks like a big staple, this locates the cables in place under that plate you have shown in the picture.

I'm shit at explaining but it will become apparent when you try to fit it all together.

All I can say is a BIG thank you, at least now I know where the cables go, I dont have that thing like a staple and I only have an end to one cable so try tomorrow to see if I can get fixed up.Will let you know how this works out.
going to have to try and get different clamps for the self righting bottle, some twerp has cut them off short, or they have cut them off to remove the bottle, hey ho its all good fun ain't it..........No it ain't.
