RYA hold courses for all levels of 'boaters' , for example level 1 will teach you the basic rules and laws etc so that's a pretty important thing to do to gain some expert knowledge. Get a map of area and tide book to be safe, insurance is pretty cheap for a small boat and is very important incase something very bad happens!! Once you are out on the water you will learn things yourself, main thing is to enjoy it!

PB2 and the VHF course will teach you all the basics and get you safely started.
