New guy

Hey guys
New to the list, thought I'd say hi.
I'm in Vancouver BC, Canada.

I recently convinced myself that I 'need' a boat.

Hasn't happened yet but working on that.

Wishing for a 18'-22' Zodiac Hurricane type beastie.

Looking forward to reading and learning.

Paul

Welcome to the forum Paul. Nice boat choice especially for your first RIB!

Nice part of the world BC, especially the Sunshine Coast to Sechelt and Vancouver Island.

Spartacus, thanks for the kind words.
Yes the boat I would like is a nice one. I've been looking for a bit now and played with a few smaller inflatable bottom and RIB units. My planned use is some fishing on lakes and ocean, and lots of two to three day boat access only camping with wife, two kids and a rather large German Shepherd.
The boats I've been in and played with, all seem to be somewhat lighter duty and flimsy compared to the Hurricane that I saw at the local stealer. I really don't want to buy something that will just do me and have to replace it in a year or two because I saved a few bucks. I'm much more inclined to buy the right boat and be happy with it for a longer time.

I've been looking around and it seems that I can get into a decent 22' Hurricane for about $17,000-$19,000 Canadian dollars with a 135HP on it, trailer included. Does that seem reasonable to you guys, or should I keep looking for a better deal? $20,000 is really the very top end of my budget and I'd prefer to spend a bit less for a boat that I can add value to rather than overpay for a turn key boat.

Welcome, nice to hear from a fellow canuck. We run on Georgian Bay off lake Huron. Interesting piece of water. Last year I rebuilt a Zodiac Hurricane 640, which is seven meters. I think you will find a real variances in pricing depending on engine set up, and a real range in conditions of the ribs. You will likely find more 733's available in Canada then the smaller 640's.

Might hop over to Polaris Inflatables in Surrey and have a chat with Guy. He's pretty knowledgable, and very nice, even if you aren't looking at his boats.

I have a friend trying to convince me to buy an aluminum boat instead. But I really really need the RIB. :~)

You could do both: Canada Aluminum Hulls | Rigid Hull | Polaris Inflatable Boats
