Did you do the VHF course in Swansea? I am trying to find one on a saturday Swansea ar e mostly sunday and TBT on Friday......

I did the course with James in Cardiff,on a Saturday and the exam on the Sunday.

Powerboat Level 2 completed !!!!and it was fantastic to eventually get out in our new RIB.All of us really enjoyed the course and I was proud of my Mrs and Son for putting up with the freezing conditions in the Bristol Channel
Exiting Cardiff bay at low tide was a bit tricky,but we done it. I also found chart plotting fascinating and have read and practiced as much as I can.
The only disappointment was the fact that my new RIB was advertised as having a 80 litre tank but when I filled up on the first morning of our course it only took 23 litres!!!!
How far will my 4.8m RIB/ 50hp yamaha travel using 16 litres(approx) ? and if 23 litres turns out to be insufficient can I demand the cost of upgrading the fuel tank from my commercial seller ( I do have the original ads).

Depends how hard you drive it.

Cruising speed people often quote around 1 litre per nm. So 16nm roughly... give or take 50% either way!!

WOT you could drink 50 litres an hour!

23litre tank is a standard removable tank... ...how confused with 80litre?

Depending on the sale deeds you may or may not be able to complain. Suspect the words "buyer responsible for own survey" feature somewhere on your bill of sale. In which case your surveyor should be who you complain to as he/she should have told you it was 23litre and not 80...

Only if he's standing on the deck with a box of matches... if he's burning 1/2 that at WOT he should be a bit disappointed.

What does WOT mean ?
As I said I trusted the seller I had no idea at the time and only found out on the 1st day of my powerboat course.

So 17nm's would be about the limit with 6 liters left in the tank just in case ?

Is the tank built into the boat, or is it a self contained removable one ?

If it's removable buy a second fuel tank and strap it down on the deck. When required just swap the the fuel line to the second tank on the deck (with an extension to the fuel line if needed). Fuel hose and connectors are readily available in chandlers.

I would guess you would be looking at roughly 0.75 litres per nautical mile with your boat and engine. It will be a bit more thirsty at WOT.

Are you sure it's a 23 li tank?

Are you sure it was empty, when. You put 23 li in; and are you sure it was full when you'd finished ?

Boat tanks are difacult to fill in my experience. Fuel pump often cuts out before it's full.

The only sure way to know its empty is to run out of fuel. Obviously not ideal.

Its a stainless steel tank under the seat , and when I get my boat back Im going to measure it to find out its volume.

Seems unlikely (to me) that someone would go to the trouble and expense of fitting a stainless tank that was just the same size as an off-the-shelf, robust, low cost, plastic tank.

Try with the Garmin nuvi 500 or similar. It's a multi purpose gps with a support for the handlebar of your console.

That said a one of these looks like it might fit under the seat, 23l is about half a tank are you sure it isnt a double tank? has a change over tap? and 2 filling ports? One on each side?

Thanks for all of your help.
I've got my rib back now , measured the tank and it is 66 x 23 x 43 or 65274 cm3 which is 65l which I'm happy about.
