Hi from a new Member

I have just bought a new Ribeye 5.5 meter rib with a Yamaha 115 so I am pleased to join this forum.

I am keeping the rib on a dory birth however I don't want to antifoul it, so my intention is to put it on the trailer every 4 weeks to give it a clean.

Is it ok to do this every 4 weeks or should it be done more often?

Any advise would be welcome

Thanks

Steve

Welcome to the forum, nice little rig there.

I dont know the waters where you are keeping it but i wouldnt do more than 2 weeks where i am as slime is just starting on the 3rd week.

Tbh as long as barnacles dont start on the tubes you will be fine but i would certainly be doing more than every 4 weeks to begin with.

Cheers

Hi I am keeping down in Mylor near to Falmouth, thanks for the advice, my worry was if I left it to long it would damage the gel coat I don't know if this would be the case?

Thanks

Steve

It isnt only the gelcoat you should worry about, tubes and barnacles do not get on well.

I would plan to wash it after 3 weeks then decide if you can allow a 4th next time.

I think you will be okay but not worth the risk. Wash it early and build up to 4.

Fouling rates vary depending on location and season/water temp. You might be fine for four weeks, or covered in baby seafood in three! Mollers is currently being helpful and polite to newbies - so I'm sure he'll be able to advise you about your Ribeye in Mylor.

Have a look at electronic anti fouling it will do the hull but you would have to get advice on the tube.

Cheers

OK, Mr. Newbie Mylor fella, hi.

I used to keep a not antifouled boat in Port Pendennis marina. 6 weeks was the max that I could leave her in without presenting myself with work. After 6 weeks, I'd haul out and the soft slimey green stuff would easily jetwash off. If left in for more than 6 weeks, barnacles would begin to form. These would come off, but with more effort.

There's a coin operated jetwash at the top of the slip in Mylor, so a monthly spruce-up should be easy for you.

As for wrecking the tubes/gelcoat for leaving her in, you won't.

UV protection is probably as, or possibly more important when leaving a rib on the water for extended periods.

Also, ribs and pontoons don't fit together too well. Make sure that she's well made-up and well fendered should an Easterly get in there. I tend to tie a couple of fenders to the pontoon, horizontally. That way they can't pop out should it get fresh.

Hi, thanks for the advice I have already bought a large dock fender so she's well protected, when the weather is better I will taker her to a sandy and giver a clean, this will probably be better than taking her out with the trailer.
Thanks
Steve
