Hello from Sunny Sussex

Hello all!

After much online window shopping and dreaming for a couple of years I've finally joined the SIBing world with the purchase of a very reasonably priced little project.

She's an Avon S100 in what appears to be pretty good condition for her age. The valves are a touch leaky but with the caps in, the tubes are holding air perfectly well.
She does need a new floor and a couple of nice additions (launching wheels, some storage boxes, &c) but for the price I paid I'm pretty well pleased.

I can't imagine I'll get out on her much in the next couple of months now that autumn has well and truly arrived in West Sussex. Hopefully come the better weather I'll have a nicely renovated little SIB for the local river and some coastal fun at Worthing/Littlehampton once my experience increases.

Looking forward to a fun and clearly banter-full time on here with you folks...

All the best,
Gareth

It will be ideal if this rain keeps up, especially in the flood plains South of you.

Welcome Gareth.

By chance I've only just sold an Avon similar to yours, a Rover 310. Mine was only rated to 10hp but I think yours allows a 15?

I love the classic look of these old Avons. I assume yours is Hypalon... should go on for ever.

Was it completely missing the floor?

Yeah, you're not kidding If we have a lot of rain around here it can get pretty flooded just up the road in Pulborough.

Yes, that's right. Hopefully I should find a good winter deal on a 9.9 or 15 in the coming months.

Yes, there's a certain style about them...
Now that I've added the homemade bow dodger I like her even more.

The original floor was gone before the previous owner had her. A new floor had been made with some thin ply but it's really not suitable. Obviously just a quick job.
A fresh job and then some Mottex foam rubber matting should smarten her up.

It's nice and sunny this morning. No more excuses!

The website of the Littlehampton Harbour Board gives a guide for getting from Littlehampton to Stopham and back (including four hours at the pub).

It might be OK where you are, but in this bit of Sussex it's raining like the world is about to end!

Yeah, I was going to say... "Nice and sunny"? Maybe in between the torrential rain and thunderstorms.

Besides, I'm missing two key elements at the moment: A deck and a motor.

I can get on the river at Pulborough. If you're in Littlehampton perhaps a meet up at the Black Rabbit in Arundel is in order one afternoon in the future.
