Hello from Sidmouth .

I did my PB2 at Spinnakers Sailing Centre in Exmouth in 2003 (since forced to close because of development around the docks area). On the way back in on the second day, the flood tide was strong enough that we could turn the engine off and practice tying knots while drifting in.

I heard a rumour that they are hoping to repair the Mamhead slip for the 2014 season, but we'll see. It's not going to be cheap. A real shame though. I launch from the Starcross/Cockwood side of the river so plenty of choice, but headroom restricted due to the railway line.

The current and chop in the Exe has been really extreme of late. It's been quite a challenge on occasions to get out on my little boat. Glad I'm getting something more capable.

I remember Spinnakers really well, James. Funnily enough I just saw Steph from their on TV earlier - she and her children are world ranking kite surfers now. I did my PB2 with Haven Banks from Starcross Yacht Club in early March. It was bitterly cold, but fairly flat and calm both days.

It's certainly a great place to get out on the water around here, with lots of places to go on the river. I can highly recommend The Turf and the River Exe Cafe if anyone is down this way.

Cheers all.
