Hello, I'm Jimmy Brackett. I purchased a used Bombard c4 w/ two 25 ob motors. I look forward to reading through the forums & learning "how to's" for my new pride-n-joy. I'm 58 yoa. '78 ME Maritime grad w/ CG deck license AGT. Also, '87 MMA grad w/ CG engine license HP unlimited. For the past 20+ years I've been employed by the Alaska Marine Hwy Ferry Sys. You might say that I've made it a career out on the water. Fairs winds, following seas, & God Bless.

Thanks for the welcome. I want to learn more about what I can do w/ my c4. When it comes to fishing, I suck! I can be sitting on a prime fishing spot & still couldn't catch a cold. What I hope to do w/ c4 is to explore/camp/whale-watch within 60 miles of home. Say, 150 miles round trip/range of home. For me, camping in the wild outdoors is fun. Tho, admittedly, the continuous rain here also sux!

It's on my bucket list to visit. My fishing is terrible also, but I do it just to stay entertained.

I confess. I've lived here 24 yrs. & the wx hasn't driven me out of the territory, YET! I've been blessed w/ a great job & beautiful place to live.
My job w/the ferry system takes me weekly throughout the SE AK panhandle down through the Inside Passage of Canada to Bellingham, WA. I get to see much in it's many varied majestic splendor.

Range on a C4 IMO is about 10-12miles (each way). Maybe 15miles if you feel quite sheltered. They are nice boats, I had a C3 for a number of years. But if the weather goes to poo and there's even a bit of chop they are very wet and pound hard. The boat will survive, your kidney's maybe not.

Never seen one with twins on it. Do you have pictures?

I don't like anything under 55 degrees, and only tolerate that, don't "like" it.

Captnjack--- thanks for sharing your experiences out in your RIB. I need to get out there & learn first hand for myself. Ooooops! The c4 is not a twin set up. One will be a spare. Hmmm! Interesting idea. Hadn't thought of it.

A C4 with a 25hp is slightly underpowered for diving use (my primary recreation), it wouldn't push the weight. For fishing with 2 people, I would guess in flat seas you'll be hitting 23-25kn or so with 25hp on a C4 - pretty respectable since the hull is only about 250lbs.

Will yours be rolled up every day or on a trailer? On my C3 a previous owner had bolted the keel together with aluminum plates. I could still take it apart with difficulty but the trailer was the best thing I bought. The solid keel on the Bombard's is a big help in choppy water but its still got a fabric bottom which tends to flex and oil can. Trimming the engine all the way down in rough water is a huge huge help. So as you play around with yours, finding a way to quickly and efficiently change trim at sea without dropping the trim pin in the ocena (assuming you don't have power trim) is a key piece of seakeeping in the C3s and 4s IMO.

I thank you Sir. I appreciate & respect all that you share. I take it to heart, as "out on the water" is no place to have a bad day. As for storage of the c4, I do not ever plan to "deflate, fold-n-roll". This winter, I'm lucky, it'll be placed inside a buddy's heated storage unit, inflated & leaning against the wall. In the future it will be kept "blown-up", covered, & probably kept on a inexpensive "made in china" folding trailer. Unless, I break down & spend the extra $$ for a galv. trailer. Thanks again Cappy.
