Hello from Exmouth!

Hi All,

Just a quick introduction

Just purchased my first boat / rib last week, I'm looking to find the exact model of my boat but it's a Avon that I estimate to be around 15 years old. It is around <5m in length.

It's in need of a small amount of work but to my knowledge nothing major. The engine is only a few years old, a 60hp Mariner. Perfect in my opinion for getting me going and learning the water on

I'm quite a keen diy car mechanic, though I try and avoid these days! I've also got a good knowledge of playing with 12v electrical/electronics, carrying out lots of wiring upgrades and engine conversions in VW's

I'll be looking to do all the servicing myself where possible and really getting to know my way around a marine engine.

Great forum, I'm looking primarily to start with some help I.Ding the boat and picking through the rather grotty looking wiring and temperamental fuel gauge! I'm taking it out the water tomorrow all being well, then the fun can start

At last!

A trip up the estuary today to turf locks for some lunch!

Last week just after my first launch of a boat, got myself properly stressed about it but it went quite well really!

Hi Maximus. I've read about Mamhead slipway in a local paper about the Estuary and it said it was a priority for the council to rebuild/repair. Not sure about any other info than that at the moment! Could take years!!

Bloody Typical!

...I heard they've-(Local Authority) have been trying to close it for sometime,but couldn't for various reasons???... Maybe they will let it slowly deteriorate until its unviable to repair,(which happens a lot) but for SW boaters would be a real Shame!!
....With all the revenue from the new Marina Development-S! too

....or maybe that's the Problem!!

Nice looking craft you've got there. Hope to see you out and about sometime. You can't beat a trip to the Turf! Shame the River Exe Cafe has closed for the season.

. Haven't boated out of Exmouth for a long time, but did my PB2 there when Spinnakers Sailing Centre was still open.

Thanks all, yes Dan love the cafe, the boat did belong to my girlfriends son's dad (girlfriends ex husband!) so I've known the boat for about 3 years now. Have been to the Cafe quite a bit, fantastic place especially when the sun is out!

I might see you east DEVON coast massive around then!

Did I just say that out loud!

Can't see them getting it done before back end of 2014 season as nothing started yet. Plan is to re-align it so it's easier/safer to launch/recover when tide is running.

Imperial Rec one is still available but limited tidal window.

We managed to launch it at the Rec a few weeks ago with the high spring tide, managed to just get it out on high water on Monday afternoon, had to get very wet doing it though! Back wheels of my van were half way in.

Just don't try it on low with the Tide Running!

True Maximus,

I used it for approx 12 years but I have seen so much go wrong there over the years , and for the location and amount of boats that use exmouth, why have they left it so bad, as for trailer parking kin ell , polly steps makes it so much easier,but yes rec ground is fine if you want the whole tide out , but again parking is limited to that little car park just off to the side of the ground,

Now that slip just opposite the D class house , / surf type shack,,,why not extend that down to the water, ?
Nice to see the life boat station up and running now at the other end , used to,launch my humber inflatable from that there beach where it sits,

Sorry just to clarify its mamhead I am referring to not rec ground. Edd
