Here's another option for you:

It isn't especially cheap, but would let you experiment with SIBs...

About £100 a day for a 3.8 with the 25hp delivered to Edinburgh, not bad really. Might pick one up for a couple of days.

Well I got a half-day on the Med on a Cap Camarat 555 90hp, not a RIB (oh the shame)

Had a blast around Nice and Monaco, sunbathed, swam, saw Le Grand Bleu at close quarters at Cap Ferrat. It was hell I tell you!

Have since found bareboat RIB charter available out of Largs, so will be looking into that very soon

Gary PB2 is not a licence which is where the first "issue" begins. It doesn't permit you to do anything. I'd be interested to know the exact wording on your certificate because it almost certainly doesn't say that you can only use boats up to 10m in length, although you may be reading it as such!

Agree with Polwart, I have a box of the latest Lvl II certs here in front of me and there is NO lenght limit qouted!!!

For Use on the Following Pleasure Craft:

Power up to 10m Yes

Power 10m and over No

On my P.B. 2 certificate there is no mention of craft size.

But to obtain a ICC license a P.B.2 cert is the minimum requirement. I think.

Indeed but I think a commercially endorsed PB2 can actually skipper upto 24m (within the range limits imposed for the craft etc).

Indeed, I stand corrected - just checked!

As above, exactly how it is.

The PB2 states only "coastal" in "planing" craft, not the craft length - just doing too much reading and confused the certificates / conditions etc. etc.

Although it's not a licence per se, I'm led to believe that without one or the other (ICC preferred), I'd be at a disadvantage for insurance and if there were issues of any sort, the Portuguese authorities/coast guard may take a dim view of not have any kind of "qualification" ...
